Penny Cline was born in London, but grew up in Hove, near sunny Brighton, with the sea at the bottom of the road and the countryside just a bike ride away.
She loved the Downs and the wooded Weald with its meandering rivers, and spent happy hours riding the country lanes and dreaming of being an artist like the ones who'd illustrated her favorite early picture books.
College and working life took another course though, and she was married with three children and many miles of travel through Africa, Asia and Europe behind her before it became possible to return to higher education and study art.
After many years spent exhibiting with different art societies, she now concentrates on illustration. She has created limited edition cards, greetings cards and book covers, but her love for the magical world of children's picture books never left her, and she still has most of those enjoyed with her own children. The Extremely Strange Story of Ermintrude Bold is the realization of a dream - hopefully only the first of many precious picture books for little people.
