Dr. Monica Augustina Zhekov is a visiting lecturer of Translation and a Romanian language tutor at Middlesex University in London (UK). She is also a Registered Public Service Interpreter and Translator with a proven long track record of success within language based roles. She has performed these roles effectively in a range of environments including legal, medical and custodial. Monica holds a Doctorate in Professional Studies in the field of Lexicography and a Master of Arts in Translation Studies from Middlesex University. She is the creator and developer of an English-Romanian glossary of English criminal law for interpreters and legal professionals using electronic corpora. Dr. Zhekov is a recipient of several awards, an Academic Achievement Scholarship, a Chancellor Scholarship for Community and Cultural Activity and a Santander Work Based Learning Scholarship. She is also an active member of the Charter Institute of Linguists, the National Register of Public Service Interpreters and the Society of Officially Metropolitan Interpreters. Monica has written number of periodic newsletters for the Evangelical Theological Seminary, Osijek, Croatia, the International Christian Foundation for Theological Education in Central and Eastern Europe and the Bethany Christian Centre in Oradea, Romania. Dr. Zhekov has also written several articles for ProZ.com Translation Article Knowledgebase of freelance translators and translation companies and the Linguist, the professional journal of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. She is the author of Bridging the Vernacular Gap: Safeguarding Devices in English-Romanian Translation (2013).
