I love quirky characters – skeletons, mischievous ghosts, wacky machines, pantomime people, inventors, alligators, aliens, insects, pirates, people who live in disused railway carriages, or windmills or tree-houses – anyone or anything that adds a bit of magic and makes my imagination whirl!
When I was little, running round our big back garden on the Isle Of Wight, I wanted to be in Robin Hood's band or go on adventures like Alices's. People in books were funny, scary, sad or warm-hearted. They felt real and I made up my own stories before I could write. I still write them for that little girl in the big back garden. I've never grown up!
Now I live in Surrey with my daughter and her family, - and our dog called Trixie. I used to have a budgie called Ringo, a rabbit called Flipper, a cat called Issy and lots of chickens. Many animals creep into my stories and they're always fun and magical to have around.
I have started to illustrate my books myself. I am still learning! I want all my books to be in full colour - and that means reissuing some of the early ones. If you purchase one that is still in black and white please come back in a few months to see if there is a new colour version to download - it will be free.
In the meantime, there are a lot of new books to come. See my website for details of new releases: www.barbaragodwin.com
