For many years Jan Stone thought she was 'just' a teacher. Life had other ideas, though. After wondering vaguely why she resonated so strongly with the puzzling, challenging and exciting young people who didn't fit into the education system, she finally understood. They had arrived in her life quite intentionally in order to teach her. Some call them indigo and crystal; some label them disordered, disaffected or disruptive. Jan came to realise that these 'new energy' young people were busy stress-testing the latest evolutionary changes in this Game of Life we are all playing. So she put aside her teaching career and moved to a little house in Somerset, within sight of Glastonbury Tor, to concentrate on developing new ways of working with the children and new ways of passing on their wisdom and insight to the rest of the world.
Jan has taught and mentored young people in London, Suffolk and Essex. She holds a Cert Ed and B Phil (Ed) and currently works as a writer and freelance educator in Somerset, where she co-founded GLOW (Glastonbury Learning OtherWise).
Jan is a mother of three. Her knowledge of computer gaming has come largely from watching and listening to her two sons - Joe, a graphic designer and Matt, who has a degree in computer game design.
What others say about Life: A Player's Guide:
"If you decide to see life as a game, you can still take it seriously, yet more lightly, and with greater awareness. You simultaneously become your own observer and the participant. Emotions and feelings become scripts to observe and edit. Jan Stone's observations, insights and words become a simple guide inward; a reminder that what, and who we are being, is what matters, more than what we are doing."
