I have been an independent researcher since 1999, working on a variety of projects in the public and third sectors. I'm passionate about both research and writing. In 2006 I realised I wanted to write a research methods book, but there were already a lot of those books on the market, so I couldn't see the point of another straightforward 'how to' book. It took five more years of thinking before I came up with the idea for a book written specifically to meet the needs of practitioners who also have to do research. That was Research and Evaluation for Busy Practitioners: A Time-Saving Guide, published in October 2012. My next book, Creative Research Methods in the Social Sciences: A Practical Guide, was published in April 2015. In October 2015 I was honoured to be elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
