I had the older model to this one, which had a silvered neck part. Sold it to someone that needed a 144hz display to go with their new vega 56 card but didnt have the cash to go all the way for a proper one. Saw iiyama released a 2018 model so I got that and sold them the old model. What can I say? The one it replaced had no problems whatsoever, this one has no problems either. No bleed, balanced blacks. Quality control is as expected of iiyama.Its very very responsive and smooth, va panels cant compare in terms of response time/input lag/frame skipping. I can tell right off the bat with the mouse cursor movement alone. Even with a 144hz VA compared to this, there is some motion blur on the VA panel. With this one, which uses a TN panel, there is no motion blur. Its smooth.Did a frame skip test and it passed easily, to the point where it even caught individual squares changing midway from black to gray. There is no frame skipping. None. Zero. Im using the display with a midrange rx 480 amd card myself and its extremely smooth and consistent. I have freesync enabled alongside enhanced sync, both in gaming and conventional use the transition between windows, animations, movements etc are extremely smooth ofc.What I like about the 2018 version of the red eagle is how they placed the usb ports on the display. Its placed behind the panel facing downwards. So I have my keyboard and mouse conveniently plugged right into it and it looks orderly still. As opposed to the 2017/2016 version with the silvered neck stand, which had the usb ports on the side of panel facing away from the panel.As for aesthetics and practicality, its another reason I prefer iiyama over any other monitor brand for general pc use and gaming. Unassuming yet has the features I needed. I also like that they went all black again, removing the silver colour on the neck of the monitor stand that the previous version had.Speakers arent quality ofc, two 2 watt speakers, but they're LOUD for monitor speakers. Tip on increasing loudness even further is to enable loudness equalization in win10, it makes a noticeable difference across the board anyway, be it headphones, built in speakers or actual speakers/sets. I dont use computer speakers, I use headphones and if I dont feel like using them just to watch a tutorial video or something, I use the monitor speakers. Not really and audiophile so Im not into speakers clunking up my pc desk.The tilt, swivel, rotate, elevate stand is seamless and easy, a bit easier than the previous model. It takes very little effort to pivot the monitor in portrait mode, I can do it with 1 finger. To swivel the monitor doesnt take much effort either. To get to the point, any positioning adjustment you try to do with this monitor will have it give you very little resistance while turning/moving it. The only thing that gives resistance is if you're elevating it from its shortest height. You have to press a button on the back neck of the stand for it to unlock, after u press that, to slide it up or down give little resistance to your push/pull, yet its firm. If you slide it back down to its shortest position, the button clicks in the back to lock it in place.Overall I give this monitor model a 9 out of 10, the previous version gets an 8/10. They made some qol improvements on this 2018 model, with the usb positioning and all black aesthetic being the major one for me. Not 10/10 because the price...iiyama keeps commanding a higher price for their products in the same class as other brands. I paid 230 GBP for the previous model, back in 2016. This model I paid 218 GBP. Other monitors in its class(144hz, freesync, 1ms response time) cost anywhere from 15% - 20% less, tho u dont get the added features i guess.
