Top Customer Reviews

One of those great obscure Scottish new wave (more rock, actually) bands that surfaced with a killer leading track/single, then vanished as quickly as they'd appeared.

Which is a pity, because 'The Headboys' had plenty of strong tracks to offer, other than the mighty, anthemic "The Shape of Things to Come", which compares favourably with output from peers The Skids and TV21. Guitar and keyboards-led, the album rocks hardest with lusty tracks like 'Kickin Over the Kans', 'Experiments', 'The Ripper' (great shouty chorus) and a very un-PC 'Schoolgirls'.

There is one notable exception - 'Silver Lining', a beautiful and haunting slow ballad that is almost a classical piano solo piece in it's own right. So much so that many years ago I missed taping a BBC concert of theirs, in the belief that I'd tuned into the wrong channel!

This will probably be one of the last albums to make it onto CD, if at all. They had a second album also, but it never got released. Listen to this one and you'll wonder why they didn't continue, as all the talent is there.
