A great, straighforward telling of the Lizzie Borden mystery which still enthralls so many of us today. No new theories, not a version of great blood and gore, though there is some of that. The facts as known are retold fairly faithfully. Christina Ricci made a convincing Lizzie and the soundtrack is unusual and introduces a liveliness to the retelling of this old tale.

It could of been so much better than it was. The music during the film didn't go with the times at all, it sounded like it belonged in an episode of true blood from this era, and I felt it distracted you from the storyline. Christina Ricci was as good as ever in her role although played Lizzie a little younger and sassier than I imagined the original Lizzie to of been considering she was a church goer and sunday school teacher, I expected her to be a little quieter, and a little secretive as it always seemed like there was a strictness in their household with their father, but in the film it came across as though Lizzie had the power over her father. In reality it was their father that killed her pigeons but they didn't show who it was that killed them, just that they were being killed and apparently she was emotionally upset about their deaths, yet in the film she didn't seemed that bothered at all and made me feel like they were hinting perhaps she could of killed them and not their father. Also in the film you get to see the policeman inspecting her clothing ,hands and body for blood yet in reality apparently the police botched this up because they didn't inspect her clothing or her body at the scene of the crime and they had to admit that they hadn't, which is why they asked to see it later on only to be told it had already been destroyed. The reason in the film for her getting rid of the dress was because it had a stain from a stew and reminded them of the bad crime committed, but in reality they said it was destroyed because she had got paint on it. All in all, it was a shame it wasn't given better thought on how to portray the real life characters, family history and even showing how the daughters got on with their original mother before she died and how the father met and married their stepmother ect, all of this might of given a better connection between the audience and characters.

This Lifetime TV retelling of the story portrays Andrew Borden (Stephen McHattie) as a stern man who was disliked by everyone. Lizzie (Christina Ricci) is depicted as someone who lies, steals, is rebellious and flirty with her father. She is not played by Lindsey Lohan which would have been great considering how she butchered Elizabeth Taylor.

The film doesn't develop character much beyond that. It utilizes a modern soundtrack to help us feel the mental imbalance of Lizzie. This is about as close to a grindhouse Lifetime will ever get. It doesn't show the actual killings, but like the court of public opinions, leads us to believe she was guilty and used the superior Elizabeth Montgomery version, killed them while naked, explanation. Ricci's wild eyes cast nicely into the role of a mentally unstable person.

Of course my question is...How is it that 34 year old Christina Ricci still looks like she is 14? Is she a vampire sucking off the blood of virgins or what? I mean you can still see her ribs. Doesn't she eat?

Okay viewing. Not much in the way of horror, court room drama, or historical drama.

A fantastic film giving a gothic take on the Lizzie Bordon story. Christina Ricci is creepy and compelling as Lizzie and the stylised flashbacks keep you second guessing till the obvious 'truth' revealed at the end.....

'Lizzie Borden Took an Axe' tells the historical tale of the day when Lizzie Borden's parents were both murdered. But the real question is, who actually did kill them? I thought that this film was very cheaply made due to it being made only for the TV over in America. This is because the storyline is very basic and slow and most of the film just shows flashbacks and consisted of long interview procedures. The soundtrack was also a little cheap and became quite irritating. Luckily the acting especially from Christina Ricci was brilliant and managed to salvage some of this film. Overall, It may be worth a watch if you like a good murder mystery tale, but I don't think I would watch it again.

A little bit disappointing. Not overly terrible in itself but let down by the fact it was obviously a TV serial, so watching all in one go causes it to feel repetitive and has some really annoying cliff hanger style scene endings as if there's about to be an ad break. The script was a little weak, but the cast do their best.

Not a bad film, not the best though. The heavy metal music that pops up through the film is off putting as heavy metal wasn't even around during the period of this film. A bit more back story to the killings would have been good too. The film starts like the day before she allegedly killed them so not enough depth shown as too why. Plus the research wasn't done that well. there are clear errors in the film such as how you could see Mrs Bordens bedroom as you came up the stairs but in the film this is not the case.

Brilliant film, enjoyed it, couldn't stop watching it till film finished.
(I was shocked to think anyone could do something like that to their parents).
Would definitely recommend this film.
