Can't understand why Vinnie Jones is given such a prominent billing in this film- his contribution is so insignifigant; he appears towards the end of the movie as a psychopathic, mute killer and one is left wondering why he even bothered? Probably because the financial incentive was too tempting. The movie overall has its good moments. The main character is played with plenty of enthusiasm and is actually quite convincing and effective as the hero seeking revenge etc etc. Although the dialogue is subtitled for non Russian speakers, the action is well sustained and you soon forget about maintaining the verbal continuity. Overall, a fair to good action yarn with some effective and atmospheric moments, but lacking the final polish - even with the casting of a bewildered Vinnie Jones in an attempt to add some " star" quality to a government sponsored gangster movie!

I can't really give this a review. I watched the first half-hour, just to give it a chance. I just couldn't stomach any more. The fight scenes are just too slick, and obviously staged. Subtitled means it doesn't mutter that all the character grunt and mutter. But IO don't like subtitles unless it's a good movie, which this isn't! It didn't convince me and I didn't feel any empathy with the main character (Who is NOT Vinnie). Summary? Waste of time.

To say Vinnie Jones stars in this movie as the lead star as the marketing portrays leaves you wanting. He appears 40mins into the movie and had the story-line not been good enough and the actual lead star well acted I'd of switched films. This movie is clearly one of Vinnie Jones first films outside of his comfort zone with the likes of Guy Ritchie, he plays a cameo part and in fairness to the film which was very good on it's own merits. I'd of edited the film without VJ.
Why has Amazon offered this film in Russian with English sub-titles, there is a English dubbed version available(Go figure??!!).
And lastly for the marketing boys of this movie, Vinnie Jones doesn't use a shot gun, he uses a pistol and silencer.........

This great revenge flick stars Kazakh actor and Producer Berik Aitzhanov. Produced and filmed in the Russian republic of Kazakhstan, this film was misleadingly marketed in Europe as a Vinnie Jones vehicle. Which it certainly is not! Oh yes, Vinnie is in it, and he is good. But he plays a very small (if menacing) cameo and doesn't say a word. And despite the extremely misleading cover artwork, does not use a shotgun. At all.
So, to the film. Berik sets out to avenge the death of his brother by the usual crowd of evil gangsters. Very violently. All the while goaded on by two mysterious 'Judges' who urge him to deal real justice to the evil-doers and forget about the courts. And so he does. All the while hunted by those he is after and the police, the latter lead by a very ernest young police officer.
The acting is superb throughout and the filming bleak and visceral. There's car chases, girls and violence a-plenty. Plus we get to see the mean streets of Kazakhstan! Which ain't something you see every day. So what if this film is in Russian with English subtitles? It's a great action film and well worth picking up. Plus there's a wholly unexpected twist at the end and scope for a sequel.
Just don't expect to see Vinnie Jones with a shotgun!

This film was made in the Republic of Kazakhstan which accounts for the oriental looking actors and Russian script on everything. If you want to know what the Russian documents say, you need to set up the film with English subtitles. The dubbing was horrible and included foul language not in the subtitles. In one scene a man pushes a woman out of his way onto a bed. He says, "Shut you face" but the subtitles read "relax" giving the scene a slightly comedic "What's Up Tiger Lily" effect.

Arsen (Aitzhanov Berik) is a former special agent working as a body guard. When his brother is killed, Arsen uses his skills to avenge his death as a vigilante. As he does, two elderly gentlemen seem to show up at random and want to recruit him for ???? With the law hunting him, and kills adding up, the higher ups in the business world have hired Vinnie Jones to kill Arsen, because that was the biggest named actor Kazakhstan could afford and only for the last half of the film.

The movie did have a twist I didn't see coming, perhaps due to the translation issues. One of the certificates in the dossier of Arsen is "Safe Driving in Extreme Conditions." Eat you heart out Jason Bourne!

PARENTAL GUIDE: F-bomb. No sex, no nudity. 2 1/2 stars.

Why is Vinnie Jones on the cover of this direct to DVD film .
He appears 45 minutes into the film and is on screen for only a couple more.
Also Amazon Prime Streaming only has the subtitled version
Don't bother buying it if your expecting to see V J speaking, He doesn't utter a word,
he's mute.
