I absolutely love this series. Superb writing for quite a large cast of major characters, fine acting & engrossing, clever storylines, topped off by an hypnotic performance by " The Good Wife " herself Julianna Margulies as lawyer & state attorney's wife Alicia Florrick, Though she is almost upstaged by the firm's mysterious but brilliant investigator Kalinda Sharma, played by the amazing Archie Panjabi - a long way from " Bend It Like Beckham " Archie. The standard of writing & acting as been constantly superb from series 1 to 4. Seek it out when series 5 arrives on More 4, better still buy the box sets from series 1 & bask in the warm glow of a brilliantly conceived intelligent drama series, the sort that the Americans do so well but never better than this, though if you look closely there is quite a bit of British influence in this..

The law firm of Lockhard/Gardner is heavily in debt and may well go under. Trustee Clarke Hayden(Nathan Lane) moves in to enforce rigid economies - sixty million dollars to be raised in just a few months. Surely mission impossible. What hope now? Will there be a mass exodus? Where do Alicia's loyalties lie?

22 episodes, all skilfully crafted with several themes skilfully interwoven. Head of an excellent cast, Julianna Margulies continues to shine as she tries to juggle her commitments as lawyer, wife (her once errant husband now campaigning for Governor), and mother. (Teens Grace and Zach remain remarkably well adjusted in the circumstances - likeable too, unlike their ghastly grans.)

Guest stars enhance. Michael J. Fox is back, as devious Louis Canning. Also in no way to be trusted are characters played by Kyle MacLachlan and Matthew Perry. Hilariously returning is Maura Tierney as lawyer Elsbeth, on the surface scatty but capable of exocets that annihilate opposition. A surprise is Marc Warren as investigator Kalinda's husband Nick - he creepy and increasingly dangerous.

The court cases remain highlights, no holds barred when fighting controversial cases.

Bonuses include deleted scenes, features on directing, costuming and sex content (the show, not being on cable, limited on how far it can go).

As usual it uplifts to see so much that is so good, storylines ever stronger with no sign of flagging. Undercurrents abound as circumstances and loyalties change, there surely enough scope for many more seasons.

Salute a truly great series, well deserving the acclaim.

One of those "American lawyer series"..but this is brilliant. I have reviewed the first three series and we have seen some of the fourth on tv. I tnink we will re-watch the lot and then this one. The characters, mostly flawed, avaricious, self-serving and as nasty as they get are excellent (as is the cast obviously) and the judges in the various courts are cameos of eccentric oddballs(a delight). Recommended!

(Review based on More 4 Broadcast)

Series 4 (22 40 minute episodes) follows in the footstep of the other 3 excellent series. High quality and stylish again but could may be do with a slight tweak to the formula. If you like court room drama, politics and the ups and downs of personal relationships this is a superb watch.

In these series we follow Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) working for a law firm and the real quality of the series is in the excellent individual legal case plus the characters that are a delight to follow. Okay perhaps there's too many cases with a twists to dig up but the cases are varied and the outcome not always predictable.

The cast are great with the usual excellent performance and characters from Marguelies, Cumming, Fox, Panjabi, Czuchry, Piel, Grenier are also joined this season by the excellent Lane and Warren amongst others.

Beside the cases another big part of the series is following Florricks husbands political aspirations, her on off relationship with him and Will a law firm partner, Sharma always has troubles, Cary is always up to something, and the firms always in some form of trouble. This later issue is were it felt a little weak and formulaic and not helped with the issue being brushed under carpet when the writers seemingly got bored with it too.

Anyway its another great series that build on what's gone before extremely well and is set up nicely for series 5 with at least 3 major story arcs to follow.

A fantastic legal drama, fast packed with brilliant actors. Great story lines. I have watched all the five seasons and it stays fresh, full of surprises and some amazing plots and skulduggery (as in real life!). It combines politics and legal stuff and manages it very well. I'm a big fan.

More excellent legal stories intertwined with the long running stories of the different characters. Totally compulsive viewing - a real page turner if this were a book review. The script writers must have a lot of fun and imagination (and hard work) fitting it all together.
