This is a good season. It's very good.

What spoiled my enjoyment of it were the reviews on Amazon.com that had me anticipating a drastic divergence from the standard set by the previous two seasons, so much so it was considered by many as not even worthy of an average 3 star rating. So I was on tenterhooks throughout this thirteen-episode season waiting for the quality in the plots, scripts or acting to plummet.

Well, luckily that didn't happen.

Granted there are some changes made to the formula that made this show such gripping viewing and one of the most refreshing procedural/crime series currently on TV that are not to my taste, but these only dilute the engaging combination of character and story very slightly. Contrary to many opinions that suggest the producers of the series had made radical changes to the format, from what I've read it's more a case of happenstance that sees some departure in tone for the third series of `In Plain Sight'.

One main character departs entirely in the first half of the season. I liked the character, I thought the dynamic between his and Mary's character made for great viewing, but I can understand if he was removed because that relationship had started to grow stale, as I think it was in danger of becoming.

Mary's sister Brandi's appearances are sporadic throughout the course of the season, but this seems entirely due to the actress who plays her falling pregnant and therefore not being able to commit to a full season. Once again, I like the character, but her storylines in the previous two seasons felt as if they were created more to give the character something to do than to compliment Mary, the lead character.

In my opinion this appears to be a very underrated series.
In Plain Sight centres on Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshall based in New Mexico and specialising
in the U.S. witness protection program.
There is a vast number of different people needing protection for various reasons and this gives us a
lot of opportunity for interesting stories to unfold.
As well as the thriller aspect, stopping the bad guys from killing their witnesses, Mary has to deal with their personal issues whilst balancing her home life at the same time.
Mary McCormack plays Shannon as both incredibly tough but also really vulnerable at the same time.
her partner in the service is a Marshall called Marshall Mann (Yes Marshall, Marshall) and is an excellent foil for Mary's biting sarcasm and wit that brings a nice dose of humour to the show.
Try the first series, I bet most people will soon be hooked.

Change never goes well with fans of a show, and that was the case with season three of In Plain Sight. Between seasons two and three, there were some major behind the scenes changes, including the creator of the show leaving. That was reflected in what we saw on the screen. Some fans hated the changes, but I actually liked them.

For those unfamiliar with the show, it centers around Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack), a marshal in WITSEC, the witness protection program. Along with her partner, Marshall Mann (Frederick Weller), they protect witnesses who have been relocated to Albuquerque under the eye of their boss Stan McQueen (Paul Ben-Victor). In this season, they deal with an informant reluctant to enter the program, a thief trying to go straight, a witness who has just awaken from a three year coma, and a bomb making witness.

Meanwhile, Mary's family life is finally going well. Mother Jinx (Lesley Ann Warren) has sobered up and gotten a job. Sister Brandi (Nichole Hiltz) is doing well in college and has a steady boyfriend (Joshua Malina). That's not to say that her private life isn't without drama. Her love life is still in turmoil and there's her half-brother Scott (Aaron Ashmore) who Brandi has managed to track down. What does he want?

While I have enjoyed the previous seasons, I was very tired of the family drama. Jinx and Brandi were self-destructive, and Mary enabling them grated on my nerves. I liked the fact that this aspect of things was fairly stable for a change. For some fans, this was the biggest point of contention for the season.

On the other hand, they wrote Eleanor Prince (Holly Maples) out of the show. She'd been brought in during season two as a foil for Mary in the office, someone who wasn't cowed by her like the men are.

Another great season of in plain sight (definitely under rated) focusing on the life of Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshall based in New Mexico and specialising in the U.S. witness protection program.

Just wanted to watch an interesting series that again I had only joined in the middle of the first series. So I bought all seasons and I'm saving them for a cold winter night.
