By the time you get to Season 5 of a show you are looking for it to dip as the producers run out of ideas, or try to shake things up. In the case of `Medium' this happened in the previous season as Alison DuBois lost her job. We are now back on familiar ground as the Alison is back at the DA Office and the show takes a case of the week approach. In this format the show works well as it continues to be gripping and surprisingly dark. Rather than getting stale the show runners have given the rest of the DuBois family more to do; Joe starts a new business and the children all have their run ins with their burgeoning powers. The sense of family is as natural and compelling as ever, with many of the important scenes still being played out around the dinner table on just before going to sleep.

Is `Medium' getting complacent? The format is perhaps a little repetitive now, but for fans of the show you are getting from Season 5 some of the best storylines yet. There are a couple of extended arcs that allow the actors to explore their characters as well as a number of lighter episodes to relieve the tension. As always, Patricia Arquette is a little dead pan, but this plays into the natural feel of the show. It is the child actors who are growing into the series as it progresses and when Season 6 comes out they are likely to be given even more to do. If you are new to the show I would still advise starting nearer the beginning, but for fans of the previous 4 outings, season 5 of `Medium' is still of the upmost quality.

Became addicted early on and bought the entire series. Not usually the type of show I like. But somehow this one works for my wife and I. The cast and the production values are so good. That flaws and failures of some stories can be ignored and accepted.

Love Medium, I always found this to be the better show between it & Ghost whisper... Kinda more gritty & more substance while GW was glitzy, glamorous & superficial... Also with an awesome cast & crew that display the affairs of family to be every bit as important as worklife & the supernatural element... Top notch TV at its best...

It has taken well over a year for Season 5 to be released but it was well worth the wait.

I cannot watch Medium on Tv. Not because I am unable to receive the Tv Station but for the simple reason that I cannot wait 7 whole days for the next episode. So therefore, I punish myself by not watching it on Tv but wait for it to be released on DVD. That way, I can watch a whole disc of 4 episodes each night for 5 nights.

So, Season 5. Half-way through the programming schedule, considering USA Tv shows are made in 10 Season shedules.

After watching Seasons 1 thru 4. I thought, what could they write to keep their viewing figures that would not seem to be a repetition of something they have already written about?

Not only have they written completely new story-lines but in my opinion, this is the best Season yet.

This boxset contains 5 DVDs with 19 episodes (4 episodes per disc and the 5th disc containing 3 episodes).
A few of the stories are two-part episodes and one story is a three-part episode.

There are also bonus features on some of the discs and disc 5 contains a 27 minute "The Making of Season 5" and also a 22 minute Q&A feature with Patricia and Jake (Allison & Joe).

I am not going to give a plot-by-plot description of each episode, as this will spoil your entertainment if you have not seen this on Tv but what I will say is, that you will be totally emersed in each episode, that you will want to watch the whole season again and again. I love all the episodes but my favorite is "Apocalypse Now". The thought and imagination that went into that episode is amazing.

Even Patricia gets to direct two of the episodes in this season and a great job she did too.

bought this because it wasn't going to be on TV and we really loved the earlier series. it wasn't as good - but still enjoyable. as other reviews have stated the stories were not as interesting and the plots not as compelling. we do quite enjoy the family saga bits. could have done with more bridget than ariel storylines though. still, didn't regret buying it and watching it, and will probably get season 6!
