When I read Darkly Wood, the first book in this series, I was spellbound and this one was no different!
This book, Darkly Wood II, continues Daisy May’s story, and like the titular wood’s dark magic you will be lured into the web and you’ll find yourself quite captive.
Daisy May finds herself drawn back to Darkly Wood, and with years of research and memories behind her it’s not something she relishes. She’s haunted and damaged by her past, but when called upon she knows she must face its evil once again.
I don’t often read horror, and I’m still not sure I’d call this horror, but this held me and kept me turning pages. Like the previous book, this one intertwines many stories. It is deftly done, and chapter by chapter I devoured the grim and gruesome tales, finding I couldn’t stop at one cliff hanger, desperate to know where each character was heading, or ending.
This book is full of potent and evocative prose, putting you right amid the terror. Beautifully written with Power’s masterful narration and flowing stories, I was completely immersed. I was so deeply absorbed at the end that I was quite disappointed that I couldn’t begin another Darkly Wood tale straight away – still so much to find out! I’ll have to wait patiently…
