- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 July 2022Rated about 20 Amps, this is flexible, multi-strand wire with good temperature rating and is well suited for automotive and other use. I used it to power a horn in my vintage car plus other DIY projects.
I have used more of red and black so might have been useful to have 2x the qty of those compared to the other colours.
Would I buy it again? YES

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 December 2020This cable is for electrical work rather than electronic work. The suggestion of using it for the Raspberry Pi is absurd. It’s too thick for small electronic work and a complete overkill. This cable is more suited to wiring electrical devices where higher voltages and/or currents are involved.
The cable is multi-stranded. This makes it suitable for jobs where a certain amount of movement is anticipated. Stranded wire is much less likely to fracture than solid core wire. The wire is rated at 20 amps at a maximum of 600 volts. This makes it ideal for mains electricity work.
The wire is coated with silicone rather than plastic. This has a greater heat resistance and can be used in situations where temperatures may be as high as 200° C.
You get five lengths of wire of approximately 3 metres each. Three of the colours are to UK standard colour coding for Live, Neutral and Earth wires and are brown, blue and green/yellow respectively. The other two wires use the standard DC colours for positive and negative, which are red and black respectively.
In the box with the wires was a roll of insulation tape which isn’t mentioned anywhere. I’m not sure if everyone gets one but it’s a welcome addition. The price may be a tad high as it works out more than £1 a metre at the current price.
Overall, good quality cable for electrical work. I hope that helps.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 July 2022I miss read the ad and get 5 short lengths of good quality wire, why it needs to be this good, mind tricks probably considering the wire used in automotive is good enough and lasts a lifetime generally. Cannot recommend it for automotive application as it is just way over the top, and cost an extortionate amount.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 November 2020Oh, what fabulous cable. Right from an early age I had an interest in small home electronics projects and I remember at a very young age my parents letting me wire in a mains-powered security light that came on and off randomly when we went out and used two timing circuits that fed to a mains relay that then worked the light. It’s a wonder I didn’t burn the house down.
Also many years ago, as a lad at school, I built an oscilloscope and you can see on the magazine that it was 1973! It ran some scary voltages of some 1400v. Of course, in those days we didn’t have the sophisticated and efficient chips that we have today and you can see also the photo shows a power supply that I built around this time that uses a rather heavy copper-wound transformer.
One thing that would have been most welcome are these wonderful cables that are 14 AWG rated at 600v and 20A. There are 5 in total and the typical standard colours of red, black, brown, blue - each of 3m length. These would have been perfect for the hi tension side of my projects and this is where voltages and currents are high where you need good quality cable that isn’t going to melt, set on fire or heaven forbid harm someone. The cables are of lovely quality are rated for some serious voltages and currents and are heat safe up to about 200 Celsius.
Of course, the average punter will have no need for cables like these and it remains that any serious mains wiring should be entrusted to a qualified electrician. For those, like me who have an interest in electronics and circuits and want at all times to remain safe and use quality components and wiring then these lovely cables are perfect for any project I could contemplate. Many thanks.
Photos show power supply mains fed transformer feeding a rectifier and voltage control chip and also Practical Wireless August 1973 Issue priced at 20p ! The red and black cable are feeding in to the mains switch prior to soldering.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 December 2020This was just what I needed to wire a thermostat in to my boiler. Honestly, it's a little thicker than I needed, most people seem to recommend 18 gauge wire but if there's one thing I know about electronics, it's that whilst you can definitely have wire that's too thin, potentially dangerous, you can't really have wire that's too thick! For the most part wire is wire, however, and as long as you get the right gauge, then whatever, right? That said, this wire was really easy to strip, even without proper wire strippers (I just used the cutting part of a pair of pliers) and despite it's thickness, the covering on this being silicone meant that it was still nice and flexible, which made running it behind the panel on the front of the boiler much easier than it could be. The included roll of insulation tape was a nice bonus and having a full set of standard colours made things simple. A minor gripe would be that all five colours were rolled together as opposed to being split into five separate spools, but that wasn't a big deal to me, since it was only a small job. Overall I thought this runs a little pricey, but for I guess you pay for the peace of mind you gain from running quality cable in your mains electrics.
