From the manufacturer

Canon EOS M5

Canon’s flagship mirrorless camera that offers uncompromising DSLR quality and speed for enthusiasts.

Uncompromising EOS quality in a truly portable body

Packed with expert Canon technologies, this highly portable mirrorless camera uncompromisingly distils DSLR speed and quality into a body that’s almost half the size and weight of the EOS 80D.

Capture photos and movies packed with detail and colour. An APS-C sized 24.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor effortlessly delivers images with low noise and superb dynamic range.

Shoot fantastic images straight out of the camera with powerful DIGIC 7 image processing, which includes EOS in-camera Diffraction Correction, improved noise reduction and Auto Lighting Optimiser.

Supercharged to capture spontaneous moments

React instinctively to the moment and catch moving action with ease thanks to Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which enables DSLR level AF speed and accuracy.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF reads every pixel’s ‘left and right’ photodiodes independently to achieve phase detection AF and deliver both quick and accurate focus acquisition, whilst ensuring maximum image quality. Plus you can utilise Dual Pixel CMOS AF seamlessly across 80 per cent of the width and height of the frame and it works together with DIGIC 7 for assured subject tracking performance.

Follow the action with sustained 7 fps continuous shooting in RAW with Servo AF. Or shoot 9 fps continuously with fixed focus.

Perfect for creative videography

Shoot stunning movies with a unique cinematic look and feel. Dual Pixel CMOS AF offers precision subject tracking and, combined with Touch AF and STM focusing technology, enables dramatic focus transitions.

Capture steady footage in any situation, even when using lenses without an optical Image Stabiliser, thanks to in-camera 5-axis digital stabilisation, which is further enhanced when used with EF-M or EF-S lenses compatible with Dynamic IS.

Create Full HD movies with astonishing depth and clarity. 60 frames per second movie capture ensures smooth action sequences and expands your options for slow motion playback.

24.2 megapixels

24.2 Megapixel APS-C size sensor.

OLED EVF

Large, central electronic viewfinder.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF

Fast for photos; smooth for video.

Remote shooting

Control the camera with a smartphone.

    Exceptional camera!!
    5 out of 5 stars
    Exceptional camera!!
For just over a year now I've been shooting with this machine and cant recommend it enough. The camera carries a number of features you'll find on the high end 5D iv and 1DX ii canon cameras. Thinks like shutter speed, aperture, white balance, auto focus modes (it has manual too) metering mode, the list goes on to things like selfie mode and culinary shooting mode (if you don't know what any of that mean Tony Northrup's youtube videos are a great start). Did I mention it weights ABSOLUTELY nothing!! If your scaling down from one of the Canon full frame big boys you wont get the same picture quality (obviously) but it's like your carry a can of coca cola, even with the 18-150mm zoom lens and not carrying a huge brick all day long. I love this thing! It also shoots RAW! (again Tony Northrup).I have literally taken this thing to the other side of the world and back going from London to the winter olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Yes it survived the the FREEZING temperatures and the boiling hot sun of Abu Dhabi, for the Red Bull air race! These guys were flying pretty fast and I was standing a mile away! See the pic!The picture quality is remarkable for the CMOS sensor, the 24 megapixels goes along way! There's two things the camera does very well the first is taking pictures of objects, see the picture of the Kayaks on top of my brothers car. The second is SELFIE'S! The quality, when its in focus is incredible! Again see the selfie pic (taken with the 11-22mm EF-M lens and cropped to a square).I could keep going on about this camera, the features, the weight... Did I mention it has wifi, you can go straight from camera to phone when your out and about. It can get a little tricky when you try to transfer 600 photos at once, just don't do that lol. Coupled with the 18-150mm zoom lens (it's a great walk around) and the 11-22mm wide angle lens for selfies, landscapes and street photography you just cant go wrong (I don't even use the kit lens anymore). The other lens the 22mm pancake lens, will literally fit in your pocket (jacket or baggy jeans). The flip down and full touch screen is real handy especially if your moving on from a phone or form other touch screens like I was. You can go through all the setting, pictures and menu's with a swipe. There's also a REALLY great hand held night mode for shooting in low light, see the photo of the pool (this was taken at the Grand Harbour in Kowloon, Hong Kong). The camera shoots 4 photos and then stitches them together for you, avoiding those blurry streaks you'd otherwise get.I cant comment on the video as I'm not a videographer, but see the video of Red Gerard taking the gold medal at Pyeongchang for the quality. It's good!To summarise, get this camera! Go into Jessops and play with it! Start shooting! Capture exceptional pictures of your life! Then, when you can justify spending it, get the Canon 5D iv with the 24-70mm 2.8 ii lens, it is OUTSTANDING!! The pictures are INCREDIBLE!! But it is £5,000 so you might want to save up first!

Had it for almost a year now and it's been sensational for travelling photography.
Pros are endless and the only con I've found so far is the lack of lens options native to Canon Mirrorless range but otherwise it's perfect! Easy to transfer pics from camera to phone as well which means you can edit on the go with lightroom easily as well.

the problem with this is it came out two years too late, its well made but overpriced with the more fragile m50 providing better quality and limited 4k video. it is hard to justify buying this new as the new model is due soon that may address some of the limitations of this model. Wait on the mark 2 if you can afford it or just buy the m50 its a great camera and they both use the same lenses which is where the quality comes from anyway and look into a speedbooster if you really want fun with those ef lenses it is much better than an ef adaptor.

I purchased this camera as a lightweight alternative to my DSLR for a recent trip. I have been delighted by the results with the standard lens. On the Pro side the camera is light, small but with the functionality and results comparable to a DSLR. The Cons (hence the 4 stars) are the battery life, the wake up time in Eco mode and, as I use the viewfinder rather than the LCD screen, the fact that my nose moves the focus point on the touch screen.

Camera is great, but when it comes to getting pictures off the camera it's a nightmare. If you have a mac and want to upload your files you have to go via your mobile phone or use a cable with the old fashioned micro A connection.
One would expect that you could connect the camera to a wifi network, then connect your mac and then run up a canon app to pull down the pictures you want - but you can't.
This functionality appears to have been removed deliberately by canon. I expected this to work when I bought the camera and to be honest everything else is a 5/5 but I have to give it a two stars because it is a right royal pain to get pictures on to my mac.

Great little camera upgraded from the Canon 600D and so glad I did, although my old camera was still good I wanted a lighter camera and the M5 is just what I was looking for its lighter smaller and very easy to use. My only gripe is the lack of lenses for it at this time, but no doubt Canon will bring out more lenses. On the plus side I can still use my old lenses with the aid of an adaptor which works very well.
I would recommend this model to all my friends.

This was a used item, but even though I knew this it was immaculate. I've not found any problems with it & it saved me about £180 on the cost of a new one. Renewing my interest in "real" photography after a visit to my son in Vancouver where I went whale watching. My pocket Nikon & my mobile phone not really up to the job. Have started with a modest telephoto & want to upgrade the lens by the next time I get to whale watch again.
