- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 July 2016Platform: PlayStation 4Edition: OriginsVerified PurchaseAnother masterpiece from Blizzard and I'm not surprised one bit, this is perfection neatly wrapped in a £40 case.
I've been playing for days now and am well and truly hooked, this (as you probably are aware) is a TEAM based FPS where there are multiple characters to play as, they all bring something different to how each match will play out, a game can be completely changed just by one player switching out to someone else.
At £40 (on release) Overwatch is an investment, Blizzard have come out and said they are charging full price for the game so that ALL future content will be free so that it's player base is not split following DLC, as of writing this they have already released their first new playable character Ana a new support sniper.
As it stands on release the game is worth £20 as it has minimal content at the moment but as I have stated previously ALL future content will be free.
PC seems to be the best platform to play Overwatch on as they get all the new content first and also get to test it before it releases on console, which is understandable. I'm just glad Blizzard released it on console at all, if you are going to pick it up on console I'd suggest purchasing it for the Xbox one as Blizzard seem to have a deal with Microsoft which could lead to exclusive content to PC & Xbox later on.
Only gripe I have with the game is that the competitive mode is currently a bit of a mess and is far too punishing, if you don't have another 5 players to go into Competitive with I wouldn't bother until Blizzard have overvalued it.
All in all this game is close to perfection and is a breath of fresh air for all gamers, but now and you won't be disappointed.
Pros:
Excellent team play.
Good Character diversity.
Decent servers.
Good shooting mechanics.
Colourful art style.
Esport potential.
Cons.
Competitive mode needs looking at.
Character stacking is an issue in quick play.
Few game modes + maps on release.
9.5 from me.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 August 2016Platform: PlayStation 4Edition: OriginsVerified PurchaseWow, what a game. Blizzard has nailed it.
I am 42 , i have played Doom when i was a nipper, and countless FPS games. this game reminds me alot of my old favourite "Timesplitters" and Unreal 2. A cross over.
The over realisticand over serious sniper , battlefield 4 and call of duty , are what i have been hooked on in the last 8 years. But this is not that serious. graphically excellent, colourful, cartoony with a happy child friendly look. Whether its Winston the Gorilla, or Tracer, these are great looking characters.
Now this PS4 Gameplay is similar to ( or as close as possible to) the PC gameplay, they have tried hard to replicate, speeded up, and gloss the gameplay like a PC unreal tournament 2 or quake 3. This is where it differs, for those of you who played the old online pc version of quake 3 or unreal tournament 2 or half life counterstrike, this is where this PS4 game has tried hard to copy the smooth pc gameplay on the PS4.
Its quick, smooth , responsive control system adds to the gameplay. Still the ps4 controller will never beat a pc mouse , but they has tried and come as close to as possible. I would like to say stage design is superb, there could be more, but they will come, Nepal and Hanamura, japan are my favourite. The Japanese voices , all sound like Ken Watanabe, Why are all British pc / ps4 characters strong cockneys, I have no idea? I think thats what Blizzard developers in USA think of UK ! Also music and soundtrack is atmospheric and very catchy. Well composed music.
Blizzard have nailed this, they have taken everything good from COD / Timesplitter / Blizzard universe / Counterstrike and made an excellent hybrid version.
Pharah is my favourite, but each character adds a new way of playing. More hours of gameplay. In 1 week, since I bought it, i put kids to bed at 8 pm, and play 4 hours to midnight!. Wife might look for a boyfriend!
Brilliant!
