My ancient Vista laptop had a physical ethernet port meaning with my Plusnet Fibre Optic connection I could get up to 8 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload. My newer Win 8.1 notebook only had Wireless and USB ports. Perhaps due to my shielded location away from the modem but I was peaking at 2 Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload, basically only getting 25% of my Internet potential.

So I got a combo of a Rankie USB 3.0 Ethernet Network Adapter linked with a Primewire CAT.6 cable means I'm back to to those speeds, stable and reliable. All plug & play, no driver hassles, the kit looks slick & sturdy. My online gaming is now back up to scratch & I can download and stream at 4x the wifi rate.

Is recognised in Win10(Pro) without any installation of any kind. Connected at 1GB straight away

A bit disconcerting to find no instructions or software with the product, however none are needed, plug it in and it works.
Arrived very promptly, a couple of days earlier than the specified date, so all in all I think this is a good buy especially for the price.

This item was delivered by Amazon and boy did that cause problems but as far as I can tell the seller did everything correct and the difficulties I experienced were entirely down to Amazon who were initially not at all helpful. I normally don't write these reviews anymore but I have to say that this item really performed above expectations. I have two laptops which now fail to recognise their ethernet connection . I previously bought a similar USB2 device which works but could only achieve speeds of 100 mbps and I have a 200 mbps broadband service. Only one of the laptops has a USB3 port but that is the slower and less powerful one. With a wifi connection it has never reached a download speed of over 40 mbps with this device I get 200 mbps when the system is running at that speed. I checked against the speed I was getting from the Windows 7 desktop that still has a working ethernet connection, So if one of the recent Windows 10 updates has left your laptop without an ethernet connection, then this device is for you. I cannot recommend it too highly

I bought this because I have a Macbook pro which has no Ethernet port and I was growing tired of my internet provider blaming slow speed on wireless problems. "We only support wired connections," they say, refusing to explain how that can be the case when the routers they provide are wireless. I also felt it would be useful to have a wired connection when at my desk at home, so offered this and some powerline adaptors.

I'm glad to say that when I use this adaptor I am capable of getting the full 200 meg download speed I am paying for, except at peak times when it is quite clearly the fault of the internet provider for not putting the infrastructure in place to deal with the extra customers their sales and marketing team have helped them acquire.

I can't do too much about that but at least with this cable I get the full speed available to me without worrying about interference from the long list of other WiFi networks my device can "see".

If you want faster internet, or at least the full speed your provider is actually piping into your property, get yourself one of these. If you don't tend to be sitting near your router you can either run some Ethernet cable from the router to the spot you sit in or you can buy some power line adaptors. Well worth it - and of course it then also takes some of the wireless strain off your router so your phones, tablets and tv sticks all get better access to the net.

This product also had appropriate lighting for when there is a connection, much the same as an Ethernet caris would in the back of a desktop PC.

I only had limited use from mine because my house got struck by lightning and fried it! Before that however, it was working perfectly and did just as I needed it to with no failures whatsoever. I didn't need to move it or touch it when is use, but when I did I found that it was incredibly hot; too hot to touch.
