"Brick Mansions" is set in a dystopian Detroit in 2018. It stars the late Paul Walker as an undercover cop who forges an unlikely "chalk and cheese" partnership with a self-styled vigilante (David Belle)in order to bring down a drug lord in a slum district of the city.
This Luc Besson scripted effort sounds predictable enough, but it has one or two nice little twists to hold the interest. Naturally it's wildly over the top to the point of being ludicrous; guess what, it has about ten thousand totally tooled up bad guys, not one of whom can actually get a shot on target, loads of wrecked cars, and a shed load of fight sequences. Nevertheless it's great fun anyway, with Walker and Belle making a terrifically charismatic pairing. Abandon any thoughts of realism, this is pure hokum, a purely escapist two hours of entertainment.

Like many films, this one has had mixed reviews, myself, i have to say, the film is certainly entertaining, which is
what most of us want from a film in truth.
In the not to distant future, 'Detroit' law and order had broken down, it was decided to put all the bad-eggs in one
basket, 'Brick Mansions' the most dangerous villains encased behind a wall, living in one run-down area.
Under-Cover Cop 'Damien Collier'(Paul Walker) works to bring down the drug barons, gaining their trust, then
bringing them down.
'Lino' (David Belle) who lives within the walls of 'Brick Mansions' tries hard to go straight, has just destroyed a case
load of drugs belonging to 'Drug-Lord' 'Tremain' (RZA)
'Tremain' needs to get even,he orders that 'Lino's' girlfriend'Lola'(Catalina Denis) be taken prisoner to draw 'Lino' to
them.
'Damien's' superiors set it up for him to double up with 'Lino' to get him into 'Brick Mansions' and within reach of
'Tremain' - though not an ideal union, the two have to unite to save 'Lola' and indeed bring down the Drug-Baron'
The two will have to get past 'Tremains' army of foot-soldiers first, the two make a formidable team.
This is an action-packed thriller that should content most action-fans.
Many will remember and have been saddened by the fatal crash that took 'Paul Walker's' life in a suburb of Los Angeles,
November 30th 2013 aged 40.

Wow... now that's how you totally misunderstand the film you are remaking. Do yourselves a favor.. rent District 13 and see how this film should have been done.

The action is appallingly edited to the point that the free-running of the original looks fake, nothing is smooth or in a single shot.. every leap is 3 camera angles edited so to make the point of doing the leap for real pointless. The plot is the same gibberish as the original but i didn't mind that in the original as its and excuse for the action. The shot for shot remakeness points to the lack of talent and understanding of the director and the faith the producers had in him,

There's a reason this is free to view on Prime.

I like Paul Walker movies, they are always full of action and adventure and this one is no exception. Brick Mansions is the name of a ghetto basically a no go area in the city. The mayor of the city wants to get rid of Brick Mansions but he can't be seen to be discriminating so, he arranges for a bomb to be sent into the area which is then remotely detonated.

Paul Walket is tasked with supposedly retrieving the bomb so no suspicion falls on the mayor, however it's not retrievable but, they discover the Mayors plan and take revenge. Full of action and suspense.

A decent little action flick but rather lacking in creativity. The original French offering, District 13, wins hands down when the two films are put side by side - its chase sequences are much sharper and the storytelling far more compelling. It's rare for an independent foreign film to beat the might of Hollywood, and generally speaking I'm a fan of American remakes. But in this case the Europeans win!

A remake of district 13, which was a much better film, though subtitled.
Decent cast who did their best with it, and its nicely shot, but it just doesn't better the original - presumably it was only remade because the original was shot in French, and American audiences don't like to read subtitles (its why the made a worse version of the girl with the dragon tattoo, the killing etc).
RIP Paul Walker - The Fast & Furious franchise, thankfully, is what you'll be remembered for..... not this.

Unfortunately Paul Walker is no longer with us which is a shame as he has done so many great movies in his time, brick mansions of course being one of the last few he starred in, this is a cool little gem of a movie I think with a great story that's totally fun, outrageously over the top and full of action, Paul plays an undercover cop who has to go into brick mansions to recover a stolen bomb from RZA drug kingpin of the area and at the same time wants to settle a personal vendetta, David Belle also stars' another cool actor with some great moves, there's plenty of cool action like I said in the form of free running, jumping over buildings and fighting and guns and bombs and hot chicks and cool cars and a great soundtrack, if your a Walker fan don't miss it.

This movie is loosely a remake of the French movie district 13 also written by Luc Besson and starring David Belle.
Blu-ray has good picture quality.
Good bonus features including several featurettes
90 minutes.
