What an unexpected refreshing gem this film was. "Afternoon Delight" is the story of a suburban housewife, Rachel, quick-witted and kind-hearted, and that short period of her life when [out of boredom] she became obsessed with saving a stripper whom she meets when her husband Jeff treats her to the pole-dancing to try and spice-up their sex life.

In the beginning, it seems that upper-middle class Hollywood stay at home mum Rachel has everything: chic modern home in suburban Los Angeles, a husband who successfully develops and sells apps ("Happy Farm", anybody?), cute kid and an extensive boho wardrobe. But once the pole-dancer slash stripper slash prostitute McKenna enters their life, things start to change - and very quickly.

Director Jill Soloway did great, in my opinion, as did most of the actors, the chemistry on screen is alive and everything shimmers and sizzles. The dialogues are refreshing and natural and modern. I enjoyed "Afternoon Delight", although it was in times uncomfortable to watch, it also held a lot of amusing scenes and funny sequences. Kathryn Hahn did an amazing job, so did Juno Temple and the rest of the cast. Writer and director Jill Soloway was able to create a comedy which effortlessly combines in itself emotion, depth and real drama.

An honest, thought-provoking and occasionally very funny film. I recommend!

Kathryn Hahn is great as the bored jewish mum , who has it all apart from time and sex with her husband . After a visit to a strip club which fails to spice up their lives she befriends/ attempts to change the stripper that she has met . Juno Temple is also great as the lost bad girl and there is much wit and exploration about roles prostitute/ mother ; ie good/ bad woman in society and I actually was really loving the film ; until the last 15 minutes when being an American film instead of a French film it all became a typical rom com and I felt insulted . Plus I never got the actor Josh Radnor as the husband , why she didn't just leave him I couldn't understand ?

No subtitles, so beware if you're hard of hearing: there is a lot of mumbling and whining in this movie, most of it difficult to hear and simply inaudible in places. A pretty tiresome story anyway: yet more comfortably-off middleclass American women (in therapy of course) whinging about their petty little problems.

Much better than I expected, but then have pretty low expectations of Hollywood movies these day.

Hahn is a great actress and this was a lovely treat. Its quirky and funny and Temple and Radnor are equally as good.
