I had been looking for a solution to project from my Surface Pro 3 to my Samsung TV. It isn't a smart TV, but does have HDML/USB etc. Having read up on this product I found that a lot of people reported problems connecting their tablets to the wireless adapter, and subsequently there were also reports of suboptimal streaming performance.

I received the product in a couple of days, nicely packaged with clear, concise instructions. However, like a lot of other people I found that the device simply wouldn't connect to my Surface. The thing is, I had set up the tablet to have a default user that had enhanced security settings, password protected. Having fiddled around for an hour I thought there must be an easier way, so I simply created a new user account on the Surface, with admin rights, but no password or advanced security.Having done that I retried to connect the adapter, and bingo! It connected immediately. Not only that, but it must have installed the drivers for all users, because once I had it working for the open admin account, it also began to work for the secure account. No more problems at al since then, and I've tried to connect with my phone, and that works too.

As for performance, on my tablet I project to the adapter, using the TV as a 2nd monitor so I can browse in my tablet's screen and watch streamed content on my TV. The whole thing works like a dream, it really is outstanding. We also have an iPad in the house, with AppleTV, and I can say without hesitation that the performance outstrips AppleTV. Audio quality is just fine.

One point I should put here, that might be of use to someone is that I have now moved the adapter so it is no longer connected directly to the TV, but is connected to an HDMI and a USB input on my Yamaha AV receiver. This means that I don't have to faff around with HDMI return from the TV, which tends to be problematic for audio and automated controls from the remote. By doing this I can simply switch to the HDMI channel on the AV receiver, just like switching to my PS3 or cable box. I simply grab my surface, project to the adapter and it's off and running.

Quite frankly, even despite the initial headache with the set set up, I have to give this product 5 stars because it's superior to anything else I've tried.

More frustrating stuff

For a while this worked reasonably well with my android phone and particularly with Windows 10 laptop although when casting a movie from the laptop there was a discernible lip-sync problem that made some films unwatchable. Recently though the Laptop has failed to connect to the adapter despite following all the recommended procedures for restarting the adapter. It's not the TV as the adapter is still recognised by the Android phone and yes I am aware that it will only connect to one device at a time. Checking online it appears that Microsoft have automatically installed updates which are uninstallable and it's been suggested in online forums that therein may lay the problem. I therefore can't recommend buying products produced by Microsoft when the same company issue updates that stop it from working. One shouldn't have to keep hacking into MS systems to keep them working. Another sign of the times that Security processes only serve to deny the users access whilst appear to be no problem to the hackers / car thieves / scammers etc.,
Update 6 May 2017- resolved the issue after some searching and trial and error by enabling display adapters shown in the Device Manager list which had somehow become disabled. I assume the Windows updates were the culprit but it shouldn't be necessary for users to have to repair settings.
There is still, on occasions, a noticeable lag in the lip Synch but of course that could be just my setup/ service rather than the device itself.

Better off with a cheaper Chinese version

Doesn't work with a Samsung Galaxy S7 as it says it should also temperamental with Microsoft Surface Pro 3. Better off with a cheaper Chinese version. Which is the road I went down and that works with Android, IOS and Windows.

Stopped working after 4 months

I bought this and it worked for some time but now after restarting, resetting, unplugging and plugging in, changing HDMI sockets the MWDAdapter and Microsoft don't seem too helpful because there's hardly information on how to troubleshoot whatever the problem is. So I spent money on something that didn't last 4 months, and can't even return in. Just something to consider if you are thinking of buying this device.
