This is an excellent series in terms of acting, camera work, production and plot. The scenery is delightful. There is a lovely feeling of realism about it. Definitely my most favoured western series to date. Highly recommended.
PS: I rarely bother writing reviews etc but this one is worth it.

Season 3 is excellent. Probably the best of the 3 so far. I suspect there was a change in personel because it has a diferrent feel to Series 1 and 2 in terms of directing, dialogue and scenery. Highly recommend. Challenges time tested themes of good vs evil with a twist.

Another gripping, powerful season, full of ever-changing fortunes. All involved are destined to suffer, some terminally. Crooked former boss Durant deviously plots his return to power. Cullen and Elam, despite differences, impressively offer the practical leadership the railroaders need.

Problems multiply: trigger-happy military, a law unto themselves; Sioux, their territory held sacred; Mormon homesteaders determined to protect their property; and, of course, The Swede (he reappearing in a way that will greatly surprise). Add an outbreak of cholera, a big pit needed to bury its victims. Overshadowing all is the need to keep the proposed Union Pacific Railroad literally on track - retribution assured if deadlines are not met....

Again the emphasis is on character, so many with problems not easily (if ever) overcome. It is good to see women with influence in what is very much a man's world: former whore Eva determined to do what is best for her baby; formidable reporter Louise Ellison, dedicated to telling her readers exactly how it is.

Fine scripts. A superb cast. Ten action-packed episodes. (Some may feel the last one stretches credibility a bit!) Interesting bonuses, but the order puzzles. Surely "Where We Left Off" should precede the outline of the new season and featurettes on each episode? (No "PLAY ALL" facility on this occasion.)

So much impresses, not least the sight of a town slowly but surely emerging where nothing had been. Tents give way to more permanent structures - occupants so keen to make something of their lives, whatever the odds against.

Totally involving and offering much to think about.

In short, great.

Continuance of a brilliant story set in interesting times. The story of the railroad and its making by the full motley crew who ACTUALLY did historically build the East to West rail roads. Gritty and realistic this does not dodge the sociological issues of the time period. Excellent western, riveting story line and suburb casting.

Great scenery, strong story arcs, excellent casting, very watchable. My only (small) criticism is that each season only contains 10 episode, far too few for a series as good as this and far too long a wait for the next season to become available.

I've been absolutely glued to the tv, going from episode to episode through each series.
I accidentally came across this series on Amazon Prime, browsing for something to watch. I saw that Colm Meany was in it, a brilliant actor that first caught my eye from Star Trek The next generation.
I can't fault anything about this show and the acting from everyone in it is superb.
But the actor that really makes this show is Anson Mount. He's really taken the character of Bohannon and shown us so many sides to the character that you want to know more about him. You really want him to succeed in building the railway.
Excellent show.

Superior to Deadwood in many ways.
Far west was ruthless & bloody as we all know but here, in Alberta's prairies, cameras succeeded in capturing this Magnificent Dichotomy Best/Worst of The American Soul. Freedom and Slavery are molecular permutations fooling humans under the sun.
We can be free but enslaved or enslaved but growing freer. When the limit will be reached? When will a person break or rise again?
A man can kill many times but if he spares One Life at One determined moment, he gained Freedom Access.

Impatient to watch season 4 ASAP
