I am not a horror or zombie fan, but tried this because I remember Andrew Lincoln from This Life and have enjoyed much of his work since. I was intrigued by the first series and particularly liked many of the supporting cast and their journeys. The cast have been universally strong. David Morrissey, like Lincoln, another reliable, charismatic actor steals the series. Michael Rooker as Merle gives an impressive performance managing to make a completely unsympathetic character sympathetic. He and Norman Reedus give huge depth to their relationship and the abusive childhoods that formed their personalities. Reedus in particular is outstanding, allowing his character to develop throughout the 3 series, changing from troubled, aggressive outsider to Lincoln's right-hand man and trusted advisor, fighting to protect the group which has become his first real family. Reedus also shows a very complex and sweet relationship with Carol, Melissa McBride, which emerged from the loss of Sophia, illustrating the vulnerability under the aggression. McBride is amazing in this role, a scene with Reedus in season 2 where she physically recoils from his verbal blows (spoken through fear of his feelings for her) and which is reflective of her abusive marriage is stunning. It also shows that she has found a kindred spirit, someone who has also been abused, and will not give up on him. The relationship strengthens in season 3 and Carol becomes tougher and more independent. Why McBride is hidden away in guest star status is a mystery to me. her character has always been stronger and more interesting than the irritating Lori or the whining Andrea since season 1. There is also the reappearance of a character from the first episode, another amazing British actor, which was very welcome.Read more ›

The Walking Dead - Season 3 goes in a better direction than previous Season 2 IMO.

More action, more bad-ass survivors following a guy who gets them all killed. --Am I the only one who is wondering why Sheriff McGenius hacked one of their most valuable members leg off to "save him before it's too late" when they ALREADY have the virus?

(I must have missed something in the plot-line; getting bitten causes you to turn but getting stabbed or shot with arrows that went through zombies doesn't have any consequence.)

We learn how to turn zombies into pack-mules, a portrayal of the two-faced side of human politics and why the zombie hordes should fear the Samurai.

All-in-all a pretty awesome addition to The Walking Dead series.

Season 3 is not a long drawn out extrusion of a popular TV show, but it is simply the best yet. The writing gets better and the loss of a major character is handled well. Every episode was riveting! Don't watch too many episodes back to back or it makes you walk funny...

Fantastic series and from someone who would normally avoid this genre that's a real compliment. Have watched all seasons so far on iPad (first 2 free on Amazon Prime) and bought this as need to know what happens next! Haven't been this hooked on something since ER in the 80's. Great characters, great plot twists, gore and a real set of human dilemmas - take away society and who would you be????

The zombie stuff just provides the peril and doesn't interest or bother me, my attention is focussed on the community dynamics and the survival drive of the little band of travellers who have through all the devastation formed their own strong family bond. Not sure where it will go after this, hope it doesn't fizzle out because the writers dry up.

A five disc dvd box set which contains all sixteen forty minute long episodes of season three of the Walking Dead. A story of people trying to survive after the world is overrun by zombies.

There are four episodes to each of the first four discs. The fifth contains various extras.

Although this season might work reasonably well as a jumping on point, there's a fair bit of backstory by now, so you're better off starting with season one.

As with the first two seasons, It follows the comic on which it is based somewhat loosely, taking characters and storylines from it, but going a different path with many of them.

The season opener picks up months after the end of the last one. Rick and his group are on the road, and running out of options. When they spy a prison. A place with walls and fences like that would appear to offer perfect sanctuary.

Meantime, Andrea and her new friend Michonne, whom she met briefly at the end of season two, have also been on the road for months. They stumble across seeming safe haven as well. A town called Woodbury. A seemingly normal place. Run by a charismatic man called the Governor.

Can they all now relax? Or will they find that some humans can be bigger monsters than any zombie?

This does try to address the criticisms of season two. Anyone who thought they didn't see enough zombies in that one will be satisfied this time around. As there are plenty of undead encounters. As before, the makeup and costume department do a great job of making them each look different.

The pacing of the first eight episodes does go very nicely, mixing character drama with zombie action, and steadily building a certain threat.

The characters aren't invincible.
