Thumbelina is a Twillerbee who along with her friends can make plants grow faster. When she is accidentally transported to the home of a spoiled rich girl in the city along with 2 of her friends she tries to save her home from being destroyed. The story is nothing to do with the Hans Christian Anderson story at all. The girl's parents give in to anything she wants but barely have any time to spend with her. The message to young girls is that it doesn't matter how small you are, you can make a difference to the environment even if you only plant one small tree. Although I find this constant environmental thing pushed down our children's throats a bit annoying at times, the Barbie movies are always made in such a way that it is acceptable. My daughter (aged 6) sat all the way through this, really getting into it, getting excited at the adventure parts, crying at at the happy parts and cooing ooooh at the new Twillerbabies. The next movie to come out is Barbie and the Three Musketeers, I have a feeling that might be better.

From the viewpoint of an adult, this latest offering from Mattel in the series of "Barbie" animated films for little girls would be a slight disappointment, as it is not quite as imaginative as some of the others in the series, and bears almost no resemblance to the original fairytale. But my daughter, now eight, enjoyed it very much. Her twin brother, who has now reached the age that he doesn't like admitting to enjoying anything girly, left the room when it was first put on, but couldn't resist coming back to see what his sister was laughing at, and pretty soon the pair of them were watching it together and filling the house with the sound of innocent laughter.

Like all the Barbie films it is beautifully made, charming, and, if my daughter is anything to go by, can hold the attention of a little girl for hours.

Tells the story of three fairies who find themselves translated to the home of a spoilt little rich girl, where they discover that her parents own company which is about to redevelop the meadow where the fairies live and in the process destroy their home. So they have to try to persuade her to some how stop this happening ...

(I wonder how many meadows Mattel have built factories on to make dolls? Never mind.)

Before we first rented one of the Barbie videos for my daughter, I was expecting them to be trite, over-commercialised, over-sugary and over here. In general, however, I have been pleasantly surprised.

Yes, they do have a lot of commercial spin-offs and a high saccharine count, but the quality of that film and the other Barbie videos we have subsequently bought or rented, was significantly higher than I had originally expected before I saw the first one.

Lets be honest barbie never has any bad movies. Im 16 and still collect all barbies movies and this is one of my favorites. I think people asume its for younger kids but really the real age range isnt 3-9 or whatever its for whoever likes it, so 3-100 id say!

This is a lovely dvd with a beautiful story, as with all Barbie dvds there's a message and this one is about nature and looking after our beautiful countryside. Any little girl would love to watch this, I sat and watched it with my daughter and enjoyed it thoroughly. Your guaranteed a magical time with Barbie DVDs I'd highly recommend any of them but especially this one.

Barbie Presents Thumbelina [DVD]

I bought this DVD for my 2 and three quarter year old daughter for Easter, and she loves it!! She has sat and watched all of the way through 2 or 3 times.

The only problem is she now wants all the dolls etc to play with!!!

This DVD is ideal for girls 2+.

Not bad quality film, but even better to see a popular vehicle such as Barbie being used to get across a green message. Had my three children enthralled. Yes, a bit simplistic, but a positive message none the less.

My daughter loves this dvd she has watched it loads already. It's got a good story line for her to follow and teaches them about the environment.
