Disney's The Kid 2000

4.7 out of 5 stars (37) IMDb 6.1/10

Bruce Willis is Russ Duritz, a lonely high-powered executive who dismisses the kindness of all those who care for him. When an 8-year-old boy called Rusty appears in his house, Russ first thinks he is hallucinating - the boy appears to be just like he was as a child. In fact, through some miracle of time travel, Rusty is Russ as a child and he's not at all happy with the way he has grown up.

I love this film to bits. I am not going to give anything away about it and spoil someone elses viewing. It is a Walt Disney so is great for family viewing. It is funny, heartwarming and has a wonderful moral to it. I would recommend this to adults and children alike. What can I say - I am a big kid anyhow! The Kid [DVD] [2000]

Just watched this terrific film on TV.Its sentimental nonsense with a great big heart. To concoct this afternnon treat mix equal parts of Groundhog Day and Big , season with Moonlighting and flavour with the late great Frank (It's a Wonderful Life) Capra. I enjoyed it a lot and am amazed I had never seen it before.

Standing in stark contrast with another of Bruce Willis' screen appearances with a kid, who found himself slightly supernaturally challenged, Disney's The Kid is reminiscent of the kind of pleasant, unchallenging Sunday afternoon movies that happily kept me occupied when it was raining cats and dogs outside *cue pleasant memory flash back*. Were it not for the presence of Willis, The Kid quite probably would have vanished straight to video without anyone batting an eyelid. But while it's far from ground-breaking stuff, it's also surprisingly engaging, playing its only-in-the-movies situation for laughs and steering mostly clear of unbearably sickly sweet sentimentality.

Willis, handling the comedy here far better than he did in The Whole Ten Yards, and probably 9 Yards as well, is convincing enough as the seemingly heartless Scrooge-type exec whose midlife crisis is obviously bubbling under the surface, but the film works best in the scenes with his pint-sized companion. The plump, freckled Spencer Breslin isn't nearly as annoying as some junior stars you see these days, required to be cute on cue, which probably has something to do with the fact that as the young Rusty, an awkward misfit who's everything his older self isn't, is fully intended to irritate, and he does, but in a good way! If that makes any sense at all?

Aside from pissing off Willis and nabbing his fair share of one-liners, Breslin's character knits together the plot quite nicely, bringing in the supporting characters, especially our very own Emily Mortimer, who has a lot more depth than your average romantic interest, she is quirky and I like that.

A very quirky film starring Bruce Willis as a professional who by some strange time force meets himself when he is 8 years old to right the wrongs that he had done throughout his life or does he????? A movie for the whole family and well worth watching.

What more could you want in a film?

Firstly, it has a good story: a middle aged, narcissistic man is forced to take a look at who & what type of person he has turned into, with a chance to redeem himself.... but will he?
Secondly, it has a VERY handsome actor
Finally, there is a cute puppy...

What more could a lady want in a film? I loved it!! One of Bruce's best films I think :o)

A very entertaining offering from Disney. Good acting especially by the Kid and Lily Tomlin doing what she does best. Enjoyed it from start to finish.
