This is amazing. I have loved this film for long as I can remember and can barely believe that it is 20 years old!! It is still as fresh as it was when it came out 20 years ago and it's one of those films that you can watch time and time again without getting bored with it.
Great storyline, great characters, great actors and great music make this film one of the best films from the last 20 years.
The 20th Anniversary Edition is good. It has bonus features that you won't get anywhere else with interviews from the two main characters/actors as well as original auditions and lots more. Worth buying even if you own the original version before for the extra alone it's worth it.

I first watched this film, oddly enough, when I was in hospital and aged about seven ot eight. They had it in the video collection in the T.V. room. I watched it with another girl who had already seen it, and once the movie ended, I had fallen in love. (Depsite my age).
I don't care what anyone says, this movie is fantastic. It has lasted so long because it taps into what most girls secretly want and desire. A good old fashioned romance. How many girls would love to go on holiday and fall in love? Especially if the object of our affections was Patrick Swayze.
I have spoken to men who have seen this movie and didn't like it and the main objection seems to be Patrick Swayze. Jealous anyone?
Men, for the most part, are not going to like this movie because the hero (Swayze) puts them to shame. Don't get me wrong, there are some men who know how to appreciate a good film and don't pan it because it makes them feel/look inadequate. Those men know how to romance their girl and are no doubt duely rewarded!
The film has fantastic acting, dancing and follows a realistic story.
I did always get the sense that it was more eighties than sixties, but that never bothered me.
The soundtrack is brilliant and the love story heart warming. I always get a sense of longevity where Baby and Johnny are concerned once the movie ends. I am grateful that the sequel, which was equally as good but for different reasons, did not interfere with this movies ending.
Well worth five stars and more.
A classic that will survive another 20 years I have no doubt.

I bought this for my wife hoping that the BlueRay version would be good, but the picture quality is no better than the original recording in fact it looks much like the BlueRay was burnt from the original VHS tape! The picture is speckly and in fact there are particular places where the picture quality looks worse than the DVD (e.g. the contrast of the white jacket of Tito Suarez looks totally un-natural).

Save yourself a few quid and buy it on DVD.

Jeremy :)

This is a brilliant film i must have seen it multiple times. patrick swayze is gorgeous as johnny castle and jennifer Grey is just perfect as Baby. The dancing is brilliant and i always get hairs on the back of my neck in the final dance scene. There are lots of extras on this dvd including interviews, deleted scenes, etc. Just wonderful !

I absolutely love this movie. Has been one of my all time favourite chick flicks. But there is no difference from dvd to blu ray with this item.
This is not blu ray quality. It's normal dvd quality, in fact the transfer is so bad at times the image is blurred and fuzzy on the edges. The company who transferred this to blu ray should be sacked!!! Due to the poor Blu Ray quality, I give this one star.

Myself and several of my classmates skipped school one afternoon and went into the city to see this flick. At the age of 13, this was the perfect film about defying your parents and finding first, forbidden, love.
Patrick Swayze, with his tight jeans and bouffant hair, was just a God. We all wanted to be Baby - in fact, if I remember correctly, I wanted to have his babies!! I had a list of names written out and everything - cringe!!
Myself and those same classmates still watch this movie regularly - with tonnes of popcorn and chocolates, for that perfect chick's night in.
This time around though, there are as many laughs as swoons. The dialogue is sooooo cheezy. 'When are you goin' to tell your Paw that I'm your man?!' and of course the wonderful play/pause/rewind 'Nobody puts Baby in a corner' that always has us in hysterics. I also love the end 'spontaneous' dance sequence, where everyone knows the steps, and Baby is left sashaying on the stage, alone, grinning like a muppet.
Now I look at the movie with an adult's eye, and I realise that really Baby would have tired of Johnny within a week, because apart from being damn sexy, he was also plain dumb. But it's great to revisit that time in your life when all you wanted from a movie was escapism, some good toons, and a big slice of beefcake!
Ah, the memories.

Right about the time i was 17 Dirty dancing came out. I didn't watch it as i saw it as a girl only film. Later, a good few years later i watched it on VHS and thought it was amazing.

I won't go into the story as that can be read elsewhere but i would comment on the wonderful soundtrack which really helps to make this a 'must see' film.

And if, like me, you are of the male gender PLEASE don't dismiss this as a chick flick as you will be missing a wonderful film. I won't spoilt the ending, in case you don't know what happens, but it has a fantastic ending and all in all if a great feel good film. I actually envy anybody who has not seen it yet as i'd like to go and watch it 'fresh' and be impressed all over again.

Do not miss it.
