In the Mindvault Academy, magic imbued within the stone reroutes the flow of gravity. The school’s enchantments allow for architectural wonders that inspire the empire’s next generation of great minds.
Now those minds are falling. The Academy’s spells are collapsing, its keystone jewels stolen. Saboteurs have invaded the magic school in a political heist a year in the planning. The attackers make but one mistake: Getting between Enchantress Hiresha and her research.
Hiresha, Provost of Applied Enchantment, endures her own pathological sleepiness to study unorthodox magic. Now twelve warriors have invaded the Academy, the only home she has ever known. Hiresha plans to expel them with the help of a dangerously charming illusionist, her loyal bodyguard, and spells by no means in the approved curriculum.

I've enjoyed the developing characters of Hiresha and Lord Tethiel; Hiresha unsure of herself and her talents, but never giving up and Lord Tethiel striving to leash his destructive nature and rein in his followers.
"Gravity's Revenge" runs at a fast pace from the first intimations of trouble to the final sigh of relief with Hiresha striving to discover why the enchantments of the Academy are failing, fend of an invasion by fanatics who can neither be reasoned with nor stopped and to protect her friends (sometimes from one another). There are many twists and turns, false hopes, betrayals and setbacks before the book is finished and I was left hoping that another book will continue the stories of Hiresha's friends.
I must admit that there is a touch of Die Hard about the story, which is no bad thing, and the blend of action, magic and suspense make it a page turner.
I won't give too much away but I will say that I was happy to see Tethiel had a greater role to play in the book. Possibly one of the best anti-heroes ever.
