Bought this to extend my limited USB 3 ports on my PC and boy does it work well.
The spare charging point is also a super added bonus - wish it had two of those.
Anker seems to make good products and I am impressed.
** UPDATE ** Did come across a problem when I plugged in external USB drives (worked fine with sticks)
and the PC kept saying do you want to format this drive. (It had data on - so no format required!! Scary)
Anyway after trying everything it turned out the USB drivers for the PC (Windows 7) was to blame.
I had ASUS drivers and switch to some HP version of the driver. Then all singing and dancing again :)
PHENOMENAL SUPPORT FROM THE MANUFACTURER - PROBABLY THE BEST I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS!
ANY ISSUES.. JUST EMAIL THEM - THEY ARE AMAZING.
10/10

Hi, I bought this to go with my new iMac 27inch which only has 4 usb3 sockets and I definitely needed more . This unit has 7 ports plus a charging port which I haven't actually used yet though I'll give it a try with my iPad3. It doesn't matter how good it looks, which it does, as soon as you load it up with leads it looks a bit untidy. I've seen reviews where people say there should be some rubber pads on the bottom to help stop it from sliding around, no way, you'd need a heavy weight on top of it to do that. One way around that was to push it down behind the back of my desk where it can't be seen.

How does it perform? Absolutely fine, as it should, it not the cheapest hub you can get but as soon as you plug in devices they're recognised. What's the back up from Anker like? I had a couple of concerns and emailed them. Anker came straight back to me, one concern was something that was not a problem at all, just me be being new to Mac OS and Finder. The other was that my USB Superdrive wouldn't work, a message came up saying 'There wasn't enough power to operate it". Again Anker came up trumps referring me to an Apple 'edict' stating that Superdrive's must be plugged in directly directly to the Mac and not through a hub.

All in all I'm very happy with the hub and would recommend it to others looking for a reliable hub and who also want the reassurance that if they have any concerns they will get support from the manufacturer.

As an aside, I'm off shortly to stay on an island for a few days where it will not be possible to charge up my iPhone, which lasts about a day between charges. So, following my experience with the USB Hub, I went through Amazon and purchased an Anker Astro E4 External battery which arrived yesterday and will be put to the test. I will review it when I get back

This is a good product , it will charge the ipad from the red port with no issues , the power supply , as said in other reviews , is no longer 2A but 4A and this covers most devices. The only other issue you are likely to come across is with Generic Windows drivers for USB 3.0.

If you have the wrong drivers installed for your USB 3.0 controller on your motherboard , this unit will continuously dis-connect and re-connect. If you built the PC yourself or have done a clean istall for some reason , then make sure you have the correct driver installed , the Windows Generic drivers are barely functional and will not work with this product.

In my Case I have a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 and the correct USB drivers for the motherboard are from Fresco , these are available on the Website. Once I downloaded these and installed them this unit worked perfectly with extremely fast data transfer between USB 3.0 devices. I say this because I see a lot of people having this issue in the reviews.

So , all in all , and good product at a good price , highly recommended.

This review was written in respect of the plastic-cased boxy version and not the far smaller metal-cased and angle-fronted model available in 2015.

A short time after buying a new PC with Win 8 installed, I had encountered issues with its USB 3.0 support - some things worked but others did not. This was one of the latter. I have since discovered that a certain peripheral which was thought too basic to cause a problem was itself the cause of most (if not all) of these issues. Since disposing of the suspect items, there has not been another incident.

The hub was purchased for use in that period as an intended solution and itself also became suspect as it behaved identically (and improperly) on 3 PCs with which it was used but all also used the previously suspect peripheral. In retrospect, it is likely that the hub would have worked correctly had the true cause been more quickly identified.

Therefore, if needed and available, I would happily try the same product at some future date.

POSTSCRIPT @ 07-2013

Since writing the original review, there was an exchange of support e-mails initiated by Anker attempting to find the problem and a solution.

It is therefore a reassurance to know that not only do Anker support their products but they will go a little further in their attempts to support their customers. To help confirm that all was well, they suggested that I try a slightly different 7-port hub which has worked perfectly in the relative short time since its arrival. As stated in the original review, I would happily choose the original product again if the specific need arose.

ADDENDUM @ 09-15
I had since purchased the 2015 7-port hub, roughly triangular in side profile.
