Product Description

Product Description

In short, 204-pin Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Modules (SODIMMs) are the form factor used to provide DDR3 memory modules for notebook computers and other small form factor computing platforms. 204-pin SODIMMs are currently available in PC3-8500 (DDR3 1066MHz) and PC3-10600 (DDR3 1333MHz) speeds.

To use DDR3 memory, your system must have both a 204-pin SODIMM slot and a chipset that supports DDR3 memory. A DDR3 SODIMM will not fit into DDR2 or DDR memory sockets. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor tool.)

SODIMMs are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs, and the 204-pin SODIMM PCBs are always 2.6 inches long and are usually around 1.18 inches high (though the heights can vary slightly). They consist of a number of memory components (usually Black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually Green). The number of memory components on a 204-pin SODIMM's Printed Circuit Board (PCB) can vary, but the PCB will always have 102 pins on the front and the back both, for a total of 204 pins. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide the connection between the memory module and the memory socket.

I have a Lenovo X121e, with an i-3 processor. It was struggling so I decided to upgrade to a 240GB SSD and upgrade from 4GB ram to 8GB.

No issues with the 2 x 4 GB ram modules - I suspect there would have been better utilisation of the 8GB Ram if I was still using a traditional HDD. I read somewhere (after my upgrades!) that SSD drives can take load off RAM so perhaps I didn't need to upgrade them. Windows experience index for RAM is 7.1 but I don't seem to notice any real world experience, mainly because the i3 processor struggles somewhat and pulls down the performance.

I found the kind of RAM I needed to use from the Crucial site I think, then came to Amazon to buy it :) It was very easy to install and somebody who's never opened the back of a computer could probably install this, maybe with the need to use one of the many helpful videos from Youtube.

Bought 4x4GB originally to fit in my iMac but decided to try 2x4GB in my Late 2008 MacBookPro first (although the official limit is 4GB for this model.) Worked first time and were easy to fit.
Am now buying another 2x4GB to allow me to bring the iMac up to 16GB.

Soon as the Ram was delivered it took about 5mins from packet, installation and then starting the the laptop and instantly noticed the difference.

Definitely worth the money, cheaper than the manufacturer's website, very fast delivery and improved performance.

I'm one of those people who never closes browser tabs... (more than 30 open now...)
The same applies to shutdown/reboot.... I always suspend my PC... so I think you can see the problem I had with 4 GB of RAM...

But now, with more 4GB (4+4=8), it flies!

I have been using this RAM modules (x2 items) for about 10 days now. It seems they operate perfectly. It is just my motherboard that does not allow them to operate as fast as they could. I would recommend the product.
