There's a lot to like here; the cast being one of them. But the whole affair feels shoehorned into an Alpine setting for the sake of it, and Uncle Jim following his niece to a ski resort on a hunch seems a clunky device to allow the plot to function, which it barely does at times.
The subplot/love-interest revolving around Jim's niece and a Scotland Yard detective is a bit twee, but I guess that's what the director felt the audience wanted. There's some daft bendy dummies thrown into an avalanche scene, and the badly edited snowy background in one train scene jumps suddenly while Jim and his son are mid conversation. The mountain fight scene is unintentionally funny. On the technical side, the sound is muddy and the print might benefit a restoration. But if you like these studio films, you'll probably enjoy this too, so I'll stop my yakking and roll Margaret Rutherford. Pardon the expression.

A bit of a 'Boys own' adventure, red herrings and false leads, Spies, a great chase, Add to all of this a very unconventional 'Baddie', and you have a great Black and White film to entertain you.
Some lovely 1930's costumes and many beautiful cars of that period too, thus if looking for nostalgia, buy this, if wanting modern , fast and slick, possibly this is not for you.

There may be a good story here but if you are at all distracted by low, audible background music that appears to be drifting across from a dance hall, or other establishment pedalling light music from the period, then you may find the thing difficult to follow. Poor picture quality and sound does not help, either. Requires dedication and patience.

I bought this as a Margaret Rutherford fan, and she does give a very creditable performance, particularly in her latter scenes. The real star of the film though has to be the charming Jane Baxter who is a delight, although to be fair the whole cast is very strong. Print and sound quality is surprisingly good for a 1930's film, and the film has a period charm rather than feeling dated. The direction is very good, and the alpine filming in particular is excellent. A wonderful blend of humour, romance and peril (look out for the ski scenes late on). Highly recommended.
