Quick review: It enabled me to use my 30 inch monitor with my Surface tablet at full resolution.

Using my Surface Pro 2 tablet with my Dell Ultrasharp 3007WFP I couldn't get the monitor to display the full 2560x1600, it only displayed 1280x800 resolution. After researching, it seems the older Dell doesn't have the required inards to do this by itself, even with a DVI-D to MiniDisplay port cable.

So you need the MonoPrice Dual-Link DVI Adaptor, plus a DVI-D cable. Plug everything in and it works, I now have the full 2560x1600 resolution. Job done.

Pro Tip: for the people complaining about using a USB port, try and use a USB plug or a USB port on a monitor hub, as it works just the same.

Slight Annoyance: the MiniDisplay Port end of the cable is relatively short, so I bought a DP (female) to DP (male) extension cable. This unfortunately caused the screen to randomly switch on and off. I assume that the USB does not supply enough power to push the signal through the extension cable. Without the extension cable it works fine though.

Essential part of the poor-person's cinema display setup in order to get full 2560x1440 resolution out of your mac book pro/air/mini and whatever 27" or so inch monitor you've just bought. Adaptor is not perfect (nor is Apple's) and the screen will blink off for a few seconds and back on around 5 to 10 times a day all by itself, and occasionally will descend into snow and freeze - but un/re-plug either the USB or DVI cable and it re-syncs. You get used to it.

Tips:
- you'll need a DUAL link DVI cable to connect this adapter to your monitor
- put the USB cable into a spare USB charger (phone, ipod, whatever you have lying around) rather then the computer itself to avoid wake from sleep issues (it just needs power, no data)
- note that running this adapter may interfere with your wifi (especially if using wifi hotspot from mobile phone). Not sure if it's a proximity issue or what. (Use USB tethering for phone, or ethernet cable to router if at home/office and all is good.)

Using it with Dell UltraSharp U2713HM 27 inch monitor - and pretty happy with the extra pixels for photo/video editing. (USB 3 hub on monitor comes in handy too.)

Initial review

It works fine with a macbook pro retina 13" and a 30" Cinema display.
It gets warm during all day use, but not hot.
It does occupy a thunderbolt and usb port with no usb pass through as the apple version, but it is considerably cheaper.
I will update this review if anything changes, but so far so good.

It works, but it can be a bit fidgety sometimes.
For example, when the computer goes to sleep, I sometimes have to unplug the adapter's USB cable and plug it back in to get my external monitor to work.
The adapter is not too fond of USB hubs either (mine is unpowered).
At the end of the day, it does the job though and I don't think the apple branded one is much better.
It's a bit of a pain to need it, but sadly it's the only way I could connect my 30" monitor to my laptop.
If you're in the market for a new monitor, try and buy a displayport one so you don't need this adapter.

Monitor just displayed garbled colours.

Tried all kinds of things, including apps to change resolution and frequency.

Monitor works nicely with a PC, so not sure why this badboy doesn't play along.
