Works for a while then prompts you to buy a decoder.
I have changed my review from being 5 stars to 1 (the minimum I can give). After using this for several weeks now, it has now started to prompting me that part of it has expired and needs activating. Upon selecting OK. it takes me to a site where I need to purchase the MPEG2 decoder at $5.50 using PayPal. This also runs a script that crashes so you can't even do that if you wanted to get ripped of and have to buy something else to continue using it. Without this, the screen is black, you get sound. Total con. This is now in my junk drawer pending chucking in the bin. See image for message.

I bought this to replace a Haupppauge dual tuner stick. My Grandson is a big Dr Who fan, I can't convert media centre recordings for his innotab tablet, so I decided to use the tv centre software.
My computer crashed a couple of times initially while setting up. I also had a problem with picture being a bit unstable. ticking the deinterlace box cured it. The picture quality is very good in high definition, and better than old tv stick it replaces on normal freeview. It's a sensitive tuner too.

Distan TV - you set up a small piece of,client software on pc and watch tv via your network, streams normal freeview to my atom 1.6ghz Asus netbook no problem using WiFi.

Distan TV mobile - this allows you to view TV in a webpage or on ipad and ipod, Didn't work with IE9, page didn't format correctly. Using with google chrome it works well. access to TV guide, able to schedule recordings remotely, you also have access to any TV center recordings on host computer. It says it needs to be activated after 14 day trial, I clicked activate and was given a key at no cost.

Recording - very good, the epg guide is a bit naff, but usable. Recordings are .ts files. only problem I had was my divx player was default player for .ts files and it couldn't play them. I changed default for .ts to tv centre and all was well.
It's handy being able to convert files to the required format from the TV Center software, and its very easy to do. All my recordings so far have been perfect.

I'm very happy with this product, being able to watch TV on my netbook is a big plus for me. The Picture quality is very good. I've upgraded it to five stars, The fact I got distan tv mobile at no extra cost merited another star.
distan tv mobile is very good and included, despite saying it's a trial. Just a few niggles with tv Center software.

P.S My Sister gave me an old Ipod touch series 2 I think, It works well with distan TV. I can view live TV, play recordings, and set recordings from schedule. My Grandson watched a recording of power rangers I had recorded, over the Internet. He thinks I'm a Genius, LOL
One more thing I read people were having problems installing the hardware, So I installed drivers before plugging in usb tuner. I remember years ago people having similar problems installing twain drivers for scanners, The answer was install the software and wait until it asks for hardware to be plugged in. If you plugged hardware in first, Windows misidentified the hardware. May be a similar problem.

I bought this USB TV Tuner (in August 2014) mostly because the options were very limited (at that time) if you wanted support for Freeview HD - It did seem to get good reviews though too. Having done so, I must admit that I'm now wondering whether it was really worth the extra cost, as the Freeview SD channels look fine (in full screen) on my 28" monitor; The Freeview HD channels are noticeable better, but I'm not sure that the difference in quality warrants the difference in price. Looking on the bright side though, hopefully the support for Freeview HD will mean that this USB TV Tuner will be more future-proof.

Note: I'm using an external TV aerial to get a good signal; Even the user's guide admits the supplied internal TV aerial is useless.

The supplied TV application looks modern, and generally speaking works fine, but it has crashed on me a few times, so there's definitely room for improvement. The EPG is probably the most disappointing part though, as it often seems to be lacking the "what's on" information for numerous channels. It would have been nice if all of the freely available features were activated by default too, as it currently gives the impression that you'd have to pay extra for them, when that's actually only true for one feature; For an extra €5, you can "enable transcoding of TV recordings in space-saving DivX format from the TVCenter Gallery".

Note: It takes a long time to scan for TV channels during the initial setup, but you rarely need to do that, so it doesn't really matter.

I'm currently using Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit), which includes Windows Media Center, so I tried it in there too, which seemed to work fine. The only issue that I encountered was that the scanning for TV channels found the same TV channels multiple times, as I live in an area where there are multiple transmitters - Some with better signals than others. Having said that, I did notice that there seems to be different USB TV Tuner drivers available (from the manufacturer) for use with Windows Media Center, so they might help to resolve that issue; I never installed those USB TV Tuner drivers though, as I wanted to try the supplied TV application.

Note: The supplied remote control only works with the supplied TV application; i.e. not with Windows Media Center.

This is probably one of the best devices for recording or watching TV, HD or SD. You can actually record and watch later HD on a different PC so the recording isn't tied to the device only. If I'd just been rating it for TV then probably 4 stars. I was wanting to use it to record Radio via EPG and unfortunately this device software does not provide a Freesat Radio EPG. Very few products actually do. If you want to set to record a radio show then you need to manually set the timer. The NEBULA DIGITV system does support radio EPG but unfortunatel is no longer available. Does anyone else know of a product that does ? It may be possible to use the Hauppauge with a Media operating system but I wanted it to be stand alone. So just to clarify, Full 7day EPG record on most TV channels (Not the HD ones) Radio and HD channels give currently showing info only but manually set ahead recordings can be used for these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funktioniert hervorragend mit Synology (DS415+) für DVB-C
Reviewed in Germany on 5 December 2016
Style Name: Freeview HD and Freeview USB TV TunerVerified Purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastico sintonizador de TV en tu ordenador
Reviewed in Spain on 2 August 2016
Style Name: Freeview HD and Freeview USB TV TunerVerified Purchase
