Hilarious action figure animation

This is a hilarious action figure animation in the style of Adult Swim's Robot Chicken series, particularly the Star Wars and DC features, at least it resembles those productions much more than Team America: World Police, which has been the more obvious comparison piece for most reviewers.

In this hilarious reimagining of the second world war the invasion comes in comic book fashion and there is a lot of ethnocentric joking around, there is occasional swearing (especially by Richard E Grant's manic and alcoholic vicar) but not much, although it has to be said that for the most part this is totally and utterly inoffensive fun. When there is pseudo-racist prejudice, like suggesting that the scots are all "blood drinking savages" this is done, without mistake, for laughs and usually says something about those saying it aswell as those it is being said about.

Some of it makes no sense at all, such as the british forces returning to Napoleonic dress as quick as they can, but it could be a satire upon imperialism, Churchill or maybe a reference to that fact that this, via the medium of the Sharpe series, is one of the things about themselves that Britain has been able to successfully turn into a cultural export. There is a lot of the content which I would suspect is a reflection of what other, particular foreign nationals, would suspect Britain is, even today. Similarly the portrayal of a French character as a resistance fighter, ladies man and packing as much wine as weapons and an American convinced that he is fighting Ruskies, Soviets and Commies, despite being repeatedly corrected on this point are bound to strike a cord with some viewers as valid in some sort of way.

The whole features was a laugh a minute, I think could be enjoyed by either kids or adults alike and it wasnt until the finish when a kind of cast and crew in stills is featured (like some war films such as The Dirty Dozen have used) that I realised how many big names had been involved in the voice acting. I dont remember this film or remember it being in the cinema and that's a shame because its pretty good, I would actually say Shaun of the Dead [DVD] [2004] good. Recommended.

Jackboots on Whitehall

An excellent film, well worth watching. The first few seconds makes one wonder, but within mintues its clear to see this is going to be an original film. While full of cliches, they are well applied and while this film wont make it into the big time, it will have a proud place among the growing genre of uniquely "British" animation films (Wallance and Gromet, etc), and the ending has a nice twist to it.

The directors also showed you dont need a massive budget to make an excellent film. This film never left me feeling bored, and may well leave you with a great smile on your face.

Not the complete movie on my copy!

Quite a fun little movie but the disc I received had a big problem. Around twelve minutes of the movie was missing, it jumped from before the battle to the aftermath. Not a skip, as the time index on the player displays didn't jump. Very annoying. On researching this with a web search I found that there was a whole batch of discs with a manufacturing problem and replacements had now been sent out. The seller offered me an immediate refund as they had no more in stock, so excellent service from them at least.

The movie itself has often been comapared to Team America, but this is a lot more subtle. A lot more British, with lovely little comments in the narrative of how Hollywood tends to portray characters and events. The American hero who keeps calling the Nazis "Commies" and Braveheart with an Austratian accent. Classic. Never mind the lack of any historical accuracy, this is for laughs.

The disc would have got four stars from me if it wasn't faulty in manufacture. Something that should have been spotted.

This action figure-based film is not going to be a Team America clone though it does have its moments. I often tried to imagine the studio meeting synopsis for the first Ace Ventura film; why did they think it would work? Yet work it does. There must have been a similar moment with this film. One can admire so much (and the Nazi Bratz dolls were very droll) but it is an exercise in sustained eccentricity. It will divide its audience on the Marmite principle.

Appallingly badly produced. I bought this over a year ago and the battle scene was missing. I read reviews that this had now been fixed so bought it again. Still missing. Don't bother buying this. Utter disappointment.

Good hearted fun.

I watched this out of the blue not expecting anything ... & hey I thought it was really funny.. as long as you don't take it serious on a historical level.. The levels of production & animation may not be as high as other animated films but non the less it had me hooked! Love all the clever little story make ups & imaginative re-telling of history.. All the way from London to Scotland.

A hilarious action movie!

This comedy action movie shows that you can still cram the film with witty, crude humour, guns and a great voice cast (Ewan McGregor, Rosamund Pike, Timothy Spall, Richard E Grant, Richard Griffiths to just name a few) even if it does involve puppets. If you liked Team America: World Police, you will love this too! In terms of its delivery, it came near enough the day after! Therefore, a brilliant service from the company.

I would recommend this to any action enthusiasts looking for an alternative film that includes a British cast

Enjoyed this film

Enjoyed this film, up until more than half way through the film part of it was missing. I later found out a lot of these dvd's made are like this.
