I got this driver as a replacement for the HD that came on my HP DV6 1050-US (which by the way is a very bad purchase!!! Everything's failing just after 1 year - funny enough just when the guarantee period is over)due basically with my long-term good impression with WD drives (especially external HD drives - of which I've owned a couple ranging from 120GB to 1TB). Although the price is insanely cheap in comparison with other drives and WD does have a reputation, I feel (note: "feel") that my laptop hasn't been the same since I installed this drive... It just got slow, just got dumb! Things take heaps of time to load, processes are so "lazy" nowadays... And the thing is that before I wasn't running an outstanding drive, it was the Toshiba drive that the HP laptop came with (5400rpm) so there should not be any difference with this (same cache btw). So I really don't get it... same OS etc, so I can only blame it on the HD. In any case, I still thing it's a good purchase against the price, but my laptop does behave differently (in a bad way) since I install this HD...

I purchased this to replace an 11-month old drive that had started showing serious errors.

the new drive was delivered quickly and within 24 hours my laptop was back to normal. Fortunately I had a complete and recent image, and I could still extract the few missing files from the old drive. - I hope it prompts readers to think about back up if they haven't already!!

defective drive - also purchased from Amazon went back to Western Digital under its three year warranty and was replaced in about 3 weeks. Could have sent via Amazon, but have had previous good experience with manufacturers when dealing with the (unfortunately sometimes necessary) task of replacing a hard drive under warranty

Disappointed with this purchase as it turned out to be faulty. After trying to upload it several times, each time I re-started the console the hard drive was not recognised. I got it tested with another console and a guy who works with programming computers informed me it was faulty. I may have paid extra money in a well know PC shop for them to tell me this, £40, so glad I knew someone who didn't charge me for his work.

Ok I'm not doing the "it works" thing with out saying what its working in!

Right it works in a 2007 black 2.16 core 2 duo cpu macbook. This is a 2,1 version macbook with an intel SATA 1 controller running at 1.5 GBit/s. Western digital drives that are SATA2 (3 GBit/s) will auto configure to run with all intel SATA 1 hard disk controllers! There is a SATA 3 (6 GBIT/s) out soon and according to western digital's www apart from very early SATA1 HDD controllers all SATA 1,2,3 hard drives by them will work forwards and backwards with SATA 1,2,3 controllers on mother boards. It may be possible to put a 500 gig 7200 rpm drive in as apple sell 250 , 320 gig 7200 rpm drives now. So all macbooks and macbook pro's from mid 2007 (core 2 duo with intel sata 1 controller) will take a 500 gig 5400 rpm sata 2 western digital HDD, as for other makes as long as the drive auto senses and behaves like a SATA 1 HDD then there shouldn't be a problem! This drive has been running perfectly for 5 days now and it does boot quicker than the SATA 1 drive I had in before. To replace your old HDD with this one took about an hour and a half including installing leopard 10.5 . This drive is a quality product and is recommended highly, would give it 6 star's if I could

PS3 Slimline Hard Drive replacement

Slimline PS3 Hard Drive froze and began making a clicking noise. I tried reformatting the existing drive a couple of times but it simply kept stopping after 60-70%. So, faced with dealing with Sony I decided to try & replace it myself.
I'd never tried something like this before so wasn't 100% confident but having switched over last night I can vouch for how simple the whole process was, took less than an hour. The physical swop itself took minutes.
Fortunately I didn't have too much on the exisiting drive so wasn't concerned with backups.
The cross thread screws were quite tight so do ensure you use a suitable screwdriver, I ordered the Draper suggested by Amazon when I bought this drive. The only frustration being the screwdriver took several more days to arrive than the Hard Drive. The drive itself arrived very securely packaged, no danger of problems in the post.

- On your memory stick create a folder called PS3 (upper case)
- In the PS3 folder create another folder called UPDATE (upper case)
- Go to the Playstation website
- Download the latest Operating Software (at the time of this review it is v3.50).
- Cut and Paste downloaded file into UPDATE folder
- Put the memory stick safely to one side

- Turn over PS3 and open the small flap on the bottom. Once opened you will see the blue head of a screw. This locks the hard drive in place in the PS3 so unscrew and carefully put the screw somewhere safe. (putting all screws on a piece of sticky tape or piece of paper is sometimes recommended).
- Slide the front panel (under the disc slot, the one with all the features printed on the casing) to the right and it should reveal the existing hard drive.
- Pull down the small wire handle and gently pull the exiting drive out.
- You will notice 4 screws securing the drive to the metal casing. Carefully unscrew them, again safely putting them to one side.
- The drive should now easily come out of the casing and simply replace with your new hard drive. (There shouldn't be any confusion as to which way it goes in as the screws only align to the holes in the casing if correct). Don't over screw.
- Slide the new drive back into the PS3 firmly.
- Pop the plastic cover back on the front.
- Turn over and replace the blue headed screw.

Hardware done - it really is only 5 screws.

- Plug in the PS3 and follow the instructions on screen.
- It will go through a format and a system update from your memory stick (don't worry it will prompt you to plug the stick in when needed).
- You will also need your controller cable to connect controller to PS3.

The product is great and the process was extremely simple.

1 month on the drive is working perfectly still.
