Product Description

The only wireless presenter for both MAC (except LION operating system) users. Versatile and easy to use, the Targus Bluetooth Presenter does double duty as a presenter or cursor controller. The intuitive button layout won't distract from the task at hand and the cursor moves smoothly with a swipe of your finger thanks to 4-way Touch-scroll technology. Dual programmable buttons allow individual customization for one-click access to selected functions or applications.

Solid construction and visually pleasing - this gem is an absolute bargain. I have viewed other more expensive products and I can say that this is hands down the best value wireless presenter that I have seen. My Compaq Windows 7 Laptop located the device without any problems. Install the supplied software and you have a truly versatile presenter. In 'Mouse Mode' the cursor moves quite sharply across the screen but I soon got the hang of it. The right and left arrows act as the right and left mouse buttons and the small circular window in the middle acts as the touch pad. I booted up a presentation in Libre Office and switched to 'Presenter Mode' and the unit worked flawlessly - it even has a button to blank the screen which I have seen during other presentations and I think is a very useful feature.

It would be difficult to justify spending any more on a wireless presenter - and by the way it has a laser pointer as well for good measure.

Given the good reputation Targus has in general, I was pleased to see such a bargain offer from them. I was keen to have a presentation tool / pointer that did not require an additional dongle, but that could make use of the laptop's built-in Bluetooth - dongles tend to get lost.

The product arrived promptly. On unpacking, I followed the manual's instructions to download the software from the UK site for Targus. The manual directs you to [...]. There is no such software at this link. Even more mysterious is that Targus list no such product as the part number BEU0564C. Rather than return an items costing less than £7, I soldiered on...

On my Windows 7 laptop, when Bluetooth connected with it (no mention of Windows 7 in the manual - only XP and Vista), it sees the model as a "Targus Presenter for MAC (AMP11)". I then loaded the software from the enclosed CD. Start this software (confusingly referred to as Mouse Settings), select the "Targus Bluetooth Presenter (AMP11) - Mouse mode" and select Default Settings. (No mention of the part number BEU0564C here either!). After a long pause and some fiddling with the switch on the device (I don't know if this had any effect?), the device worked, giving PowerPoint all the expected commands (in the device's presenter mode).

The BEU0564C / AMP11 unit automatically switches off after 60 minutes, according to the manual, or when you push the power switch for about 4 seconds. When it is powered on (also hold the power switch for about 4 seconds), the unit flashes a red light, to indicate it is not yet connected to the Bluetooth receiver. (The only mention in the manual of a flashing light is a battery low warning.

I have found the Targus Presenter to be temperamental (using Windows 7). Not only was it slow and unreliable in making a Bluetooth connection with the computer, the connection often went down and was not easily reestablished. Hardly the kind of problem you want in the middle of a presentation given that it was designed for use with PowerPoint presentations this is a fault which makes the product all but useless.

I've installed this on a Windows10 laptop and it works fine. I had a spare bluetooth dongle and linked it to it.

The only problem is that if I take it to an event I have to install the software onto the host machine. The mouse function works immediately but the presentation tool needs you to put the CD into the machine and install the software. If that bothers you then pay a bit more and get a presenter with a USB plug-in dongle. It took me all of two minutes at event last week so it's not a big problem.

The controller is a bit heavy but nicely balanced. It takes 2 x AA batteries and I would say it's quite power heavy. I intend to use rechargeable batteries with it.

For the price it's a bargain

Good once you get used to it. You will need to play with it as instructions aren't great. its good for the price. Great if you're using it on MAC but a lot more tricky on PC, so I keep it for MAC Keystone presentations which I use about twice a month. Had mine for over a year and it hasn't failed me yet.

Good points:
- Does what it says on the tin
- Comfortable to use
- Has both 'present' and 'mouse' modes
- Everything Just Works [tm]
- Bargin basement price

Not-so-good points:
- In mouse mode, the laser pointer is disabled, which is a little annoying

Worst points:
- Amazon initially shipped completely the wrong item, and getting that replaced has been an uphill struggle.
Whilst I now have a replacement, I'm still struggling to get them to understand that:
a) I can't return something they didn't ship
b) I have a collection receipt from their courier, so it they haven't received the item back there's not much I can do about it and maybe the ought to contact their courier

I bought this mainly for the price, unsure it would actually work with my computer (I have seen some posts of discontinued drivers, lack of support for Windows 7...) - but I took the plunge and now I don't regret it!

Didn't even take the CD off the slipcase, just placed the batteries, fired it up, paired with my computer and... voilá! It worked straight out of the box, both mouse and remote features played nice with Fedora 16 and GNOME 3.2. I also tested the slideshow support on LibreOffice with success.

The optical trackball mouse actually works very well, it just takes some time to get used to it, and the transitions between mouse and remote are instantaneous and seamless - I'm pretty sure it will work fine when I'll need it during a presentation!
