Product description
Review
"Carringer has had access to previously inaccessible studio records, resulting in an unprecedentedly documented account of the collaborative creation of Kane; Carringer has also interviewed numerous participants in the film's making, including Welles himself. The result is not only new knowledge about Kane, but a new understanding about how films were made in the studio system."-- "Film Quarterly"
"This revised and updated edition has been enlarged to include a new preface, new photos, and a discussion of Welles's second feature, The Magnificent Ambersons. . . . Considering Kane's importance to American film, this is essential for all movie collections."-- "Library Journal"

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 January 2017Citizen Kane (like La Regle du jeu) is a very great film that nearly didn't survive. Of these two (the twin cornerstones of the art of film) Kane was very close to being suppressed while all the known of copies of Regle were burnt in an air raid. Happily for us, both survived.
This is a fascinating and detailed account of the actual making of Kane and as such is one for those who already know and love the film.
