Being a "Grumpy old git" myself, I can totally empathise with our hero. DCI Logan is up there with the best detectives, coppers, thief-takers and the rest. Grabs your attention from the first paragraph, then takes you on a roller coaster of a ride through the Scottish Highlands. Book two, with No 3 on pre-order. My order is in already. This guy is an excellent story teller, and I'm quite sure I have met this tongue in cheek style before. I'd give it 6 stars if I could..excellent.
I went straight to the e-store and bought the second book in this series, right after finishing the first. The quality of the writing is excellent, the characters well-rounded enough that you actually care about them, the story line well-paced and intriguing, endings unexpected. This is real quality stuff, reminding me of Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie or gruff but likeable Detective Inspector Jack Frost. Similarly 'gritty', Kirk is also darkly funny (maybe that's just my twisted sense of humour). I heartily recommend both of the books in the series so far.
With the second book in the series we see a change of location for our protagonist Logan. Now he's back with the team from the first book permanently. And what a team they are. I love the different characters, the development and underlying humour that runs through these books, it makes it so much more enjoyable to read. But the story and the way it keeps you guessing all the way through is a masterpiece. So, in summary it's well written, great story and characters you can't help but love. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read regardless of their favourite genre. My favourite genre is Sci fi, but I can't stop coming back for more adventures with Logan and his team. I've already pre-ordered book 3, have you?
The second book in the DCI Logan series, we met Jack Logan in A litter of bones, now he has relocated to the north of Scotland.Escaping Glasgow and his notorious Mister Whisper case. Walking straight into a gruesome murder case which could it be a ritual killing , many twists and turns and suspects are introduced along the way. Meeting some colleagues from the first book and new characters as in a Russian gangster who has past history with Jack, the case moves along with its usual intensity.Another well written story and worth a pre order of the next book.
Great cast of characters who all display their individual strength and empathy when dealing with each case. I have read books by JD Kirk before and was really taken in by DCI Logan. Having just relocated to the Highlands of Scotland, his description of the countryside where he was based, was terrific. I could almost feel as though I was there. He is a superb author and I will certainly read more. I also read The Killing Code, albeit out of order, but just loved it. JD never disappoints. ,
The first book in this series was excellent. A good central character with an interesting set of supporting characters. All appear in this book along with a few new ones. The plot is believable and complex enough to be interesting without being overly convuluted. More please.
Another cracking read by J D Kirk...I love his writing style and the Highland setting! I love seeing Logan developing as a character and his interactions with his new team in this book, following a move north. Another well written, fast paced book, with lots of police procedure and plenty of plot twists to keep you hooked...and once again I didn’t guess the ending! Can’t wait for book number 3!
I must say i am impressed with this new writer ,now having read this book and his first ,I enjoy the characters ,they are realistic and you warm to them, looking forward to his 3rd and he will be added to my favorites list ,Keep them coming J.D.kirk
