I really like this song, and after all the flack and criticism Cheryl's received over her X factor performance I wanted to contribute something positive (the criticism, I feel, has been over the top and blown out of proportion. Ok I get some were thrown by the hand lick, but it actually related to the lyrics of the song with the 'ink on my skin').
The concept reminds me of Taylor Swift's 'don't blame me' from reputation. This song has a good beat, very catchy, and lyrically interesting and relatable. Sometimes I do wonder why we can be so quick to tear people down in the media; one performance that wasn't to everyone's expectations, but certainly not talentless nor worthy of a 'career ender', and suddenly all previous success is forgotten, and a career 'in trouble'. I loved the song, before Cheryl's performance in X factor, and that hasn't changed.
After a four year hiatus Cheryl needed to return with a bang and with Love Made Me Do It she has certainly done that. With sassy tongue in cheek lyrics that take aim at her former lovers while poking fun at her own media image, combined with a stellar production this is the pop anthem of 2018. It's unlike anything we have heard from Cheryl before, and she is using a higher vocal tone while including talking/singing verses. At times it feels like three songs mashed together but this only adds to the quirkiness and it has strong Selena Gomez vibes. It's a real standout from Cheryl who has once again showcased she's not afraid to push musical boundaries and highlights the fact that she is one of the best pop stars the UK has to offer. And that chorus is a real ear worm.
