The best unfinished Battlefield yet.
21 November 2018
A wise man once said 'Thou who shalt order Battlefield on day will be disappointed. Thou who shalt wait one year will not'. Probably.
I've played Battlefield games since 1942(the game, not the actual year) and since probably BF4, it's always been the same EA story. They rush the game out for release date before Christmas, and it's full of bugs and weirdness.
However, given BF4 and BF1 had huge server issues and were unplayable online for ages, the fact I have been able to get online is great.
Yes, there are visual bugs such as knifing someone and them pinging off into space, tanks vanishing on impact with an explosion, and, hilariously, seeing the internal workings of the guns because it hasn't all spwaned.
But, I know EA will fix this at some point. Because that's what they do with Battlefield. And then it'll be brilliant.
Already there's loads of tweaks and changes that make the best yet.
The little 'red dorito of death' when you spot someone? Gone. That means actually communicating and not just relying on the mini map.
It encourages you more than ever to work as a team, through squad advantages and extra points etc.
Visually, it's amazing bar the few glitches. Destruction has been dialled upto 11 this year and, as much as BF1 was dynamic, this really feels like the map is changing in front of you.
The UI is hideous though. Things that should take a few button presses like changing a weapon takes an obscene amount. But we're told that's being addressed already.
The big critique thus far is the lack of authenticity with women on the Battlefield, and wrong weapons for wrong sides etc. And I get that. But, if you're relying on a game to understand what WW2 was like, you're doing it wrong anyway. Order yourself a book.
It's fun. And that's what games are meant to be?
I know there will be people saying EA is a huge company and should have finished it. Yes, I agree. But we know they don't for whatever reason. But when they do in a few months time, and all the extra content is there (free this time by the way), it'll be outstanding.
