Schubert, a Stradivarius and murders!
19 August 2018
I enjoyed this quite complicated story more than I thought. Leading up to Xmas, Oldroyd has gone to Halifax for a concert. A member of the string quartet is murdered, and his Stradivarius is stolen. This is followed by another murder of one of the quartet. Oldroyd teams up with Armitage in Halifax, and together they come into contact with many people desperate to get their hands on said violin, as well as trying to investigate who the murderer was and why it took place.
I liked the information regarding the Stradivarii at the beginning of each chapter. It added to the plot knowing how sought after these violins are, and the vast quantities of money people will pay to get one....by fair means or foul!
As many reviewers have mentioned, there is a problem with the proof reading. Missing words, typos and grammatical errors which had me re-reading parts for them to make sense. Also for me personally, the chapters were far too long. Many times after having to stop midway through one, I lost the thread and had to back track. I think they could be a lot shorter without losing anything from the plot.
I will look forward to reading more about Oldroyd and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.
