Awesome Bluetooth speaker but glitchy as an Echo device
28 May 2018
Lets split this into 2 parts.
Oh and I've only had the speaker 2 days.
Part 1 - As a bluetooth speaker I give it 5 stars. The sound is awesome, set up is simple (with the app) and I love it. Not really pushed it to its limits yet, but the bass is good and whether I am listening to music, talk radio or as the audio for a recording on my phone it sounds fab. Controls easy to use, speaker very portable, sure it's a tad on the heavy side but I find that just adds to the "quality" feel of the device. This part it gets 5 stars.
Now as an Echo device, so far my impressions are not great. I have the original Echo, about 2 years now so I am familiar with it, and so far the Megablast is not a patch on it. It seems to struggle with basic commands, for instance this morning I was listening to Absolute 80's (don't judge me) and when I told it to stop the response was "sorry something went wrong" and it carried on playing. Giving it commands in quick succsession seems to overwhelm it. Again listening to the radio I gave commands to turn up the volume twice, that happened no issue but then it stopped playing the radio station I was listening to with again "something went wrong" the response when I tried to get it to play the same station. Another station was no issue.
Firmware fully updated...so clearly I'll be speaking to UE about this. Sound wise if beats my Echo hands down, but then as I said I have the first gen, I cannot compare to any speaker improvements on the new Echo devices.
Bluetooth speaker...excellent. Amazon device....I dunno maybe it needs some updates, maybe it needs another day or 2 of use to bed in .
