5star All the Freshness of the Morning by David Black A wonderful read. I enjoyed every page. The naval career of Lieutenant (jg) John F. Kennedy USN told by someone who actually served with him on the PT boats, in the Pacific. A mixture of serious war with the right amount of humour. The book finished far too soon. This is certainly a story that I will read over and over again!
David employs his trademark style of weaving a compelling fictional story around historical factual events displaying a sound knowledge of the subject matter and keeping the reader interested in the exploits of the main character. This tale of Jack Kennedys service in WW2 and his other series of Harry Gilmours submarine service also in WW2 are compelling, believable and above all "ripping yarns". Thoroughly enjoyable.
I like the idea of taking real events and turn them into a fictional dialog. The first party narrative throughout takes a little getting used to, but it gives a realistic and personalised perspective to the tale, a good read
