I used to be a huge fan of Oasis until they split and it left quite an empty feeling as their sound was unique, I am pretty confident that I own either in hard copy or digital format every song/album/ep that they ever produced and even though I have a very broad taste in music there is always something timeless when I start listening to their music.
I have to say and I may not please everyone when I say the that I always disliked Liam and the self-righteous attitude and his temper tantrums and felt that Noel was the one that really had the craft of writing great lyrics and songs.
I was very sad when Oasis split and was delighted when Noel returned with his new group " High Flying Birds" and have been a huge fan and was delighted that there was a very strong Oasis influence carried over, that would make sense obviously.
I can safely say that I have not even given Liam a thought after the Oasis split and have been content listening to my Oasis and High Flying Birds.
Now after all the waffle here is what I have to say about "As You Were" and that is summed up in one word "Incredible".
This has just blown me away both lyrically and musically, it is simply a masterpiece!
Every track on this album is pure Gold and I have probably listened to it maybe a hundred times and I still want to listen to it more.
I don't know if Liam has finally grown up and dispensed with his self-righteous attitude and tantrums and to be totally honest it really doesn't matter to me, however, what really matters is that his debut album is simply amazing and every song is different and this proves that Liam has really got himself together, in truth I prefer this album over Noel's High Flying Birds as it sounds more like Oasis but doesn't try to be Oasis, it is Liam Gallagher but with great maturity and finesse, cracking and powerful lyrics and the music is effortlessly stunning.
As a debut album, this surpassed and exceeded my expectations and I am now looking forward to his next album already.
Liam if you get to read this (I doubt that) I want you to know that what you have worked really hard on creating is simply "PURE GOLD" and for that, I salute you! #Respect
