Promising laptop but spec not suitable for Windows 10
on 4 December 2017
I bought this as a basic Windows laptop to supplement my excellent Chromebook. I wanted to use it for iTunes and formatting Word documents and presentations. Both the design and and build quality were good although there was a little give and movement on the keyboard. Otherwise I could not fault it.
The main problem was the fact that at 32Gb, the storage could not cope with Windows 10. Without downloading and installing a single extra programme or app, a few days of Windows system updates rendered this laptop useless. I was soon seeing "you have insufficient memory to proceed" messages however there was nothing I could delete or uninstall to reverse this. Due to this issue, I was also unable to run a factory reset as there wasn't even enough memory for the laptop to proceed with the process! I must add, that I also had a 64Gb MicroSD card inserted but it didn't make a difference. Windows needed to utilise the default system 32Gb memory.
As a result I had no option but to return this item which was a real shame. I bought it for basic social use with no intention of installing many programmes at all and assumed it wouldn't be a problem. I was wrong. This laptop needs a minimum of 64Gb of system memory to be able to cope with Windows 1O if you want it to allow system and security updates. I believe Lenovo now make this laptop in a 4Gb RAM, 64Gb harddrive version.
