Featuring music spanning 500 years, this disc includes favourites such as Zadok the Priest with perhaps less well know choral items such as Purcell's O God, thou art my God. The programme is interesting and execution flawless. Beyond this, though, are three collaborative performances by the choir of St Paul's Cathedral and the Cathedral Choristers of Britain. Brought together to launch the Diamond Fund for Choristers in a landmark concert in April 2016, the Cathedral Choristers of Britain is a group consisting of one chorister drawn from each (or almost each) of the UK's cathedrals/choral institutions. Put 25 choristers in St Paul's and the sound is big. Put 75 in? It's beyond imagination. I literally had chills running through my body as I listened and was moved to tears. The singing is so impassioned and Andrew Carwood elicits the very best from the choir. A proportion of the selling price goes to support the Diamond Fund for Choristers which exists to raise awareness and money to maintain choristers in our cathedrals. I've been buying choral discs for a long time and I've never heard anything quite like this one. The guest appearance by Aled Jones adds another unique dimension to the music on the disc and the booklet is well thought out with a particularly moving piece by Alexander Armstrong who was a chorister in Edinburgh. Buy it. This minute.
