A beautiful but not exceptional rendition
4 March 2016
The subject title encapsulates my feelings for the rendition. The pieces in the rendition were well chosen, well known and beloved like the Polonaises, the Waltzes, and the Etudes including the iconic ''Tristesse''. The artist's rendition displayed sensitivity, revealed convincingly the character of each piece while it displayed the artist's mastery of the instrument. But it was not exceptional in the sense that I did not feel the urge to acquire more discs by the same artist.
The artist in his brief liner note poses the rhetorical question: ''Why would people buy another Chopin album when there are already thousands in the market?'' After listening to the disc, my response would be: ''Why really?''.
