Yellow Memories is class from start to finish. The production is - no other word for it - amazing. If I was Kanye West, feeling satisfied with what I'd achieved on Yeezus, and then I heard this, I'd be looking for the drawing board and going right back to it.
Lyrically there's a lot on offer here, too - stuff about everyday life's vicissitudes, light, optimism, comouters, streets, death, love, grief. Lines like "And departure's waiting/ just around the corner" are delivered in a way that even the great Paddy McAloon would have trouble matching: difficult mix of gravitas and levity, light and dark, grey skies and optimism.
