I collected a few of the PIR Billy Paul reissues that BBR has been releasing over the last few years and I have enjoyed each of them. I almost passed this one by as I did with the vinyl years ago as I assumed from the title that it was a Live album. Instead it is Paul's first studio album we he self-produced way back in 1968 which led to Gamble and Huff signing him. I was frankly shocked to discover that it is by far my favourite release of his and instantly one of my favourite BBR releases. In the liner notes, a new interview with Billy tells us how he got the album together and why he chose the covers he did. The version of On A Clear Day (You Can See Forever) is peerless. Quite simply, just get this. It is truly wonderful and utterly beautiful.
