I came to this after exhausting 'The Killing' and 'The Bridge' and feeling in desperate need of a further Scandi drama to occupy the evenings. Initially I didn't expect too much of 'Borgen' as the scenario seemed rather tame after those two crime-based sets.
But how wrong could I be! I was rapidly drawn into the storyline. The series is remarkably well acted and written. The cast superlative; Sidse Babett Knudsen's depiction of Brigitte Nyborg Christensen provides the core thread of the three series and throughout she provides a masterclass in acting, and I can't think of anything I've ever watched on television that surpasses it. The other leading characters are all fascinating - really well drawn, and the chemistry between them is never predictable. Watching the mechanisms of politics in Denmark, based entirely on coalitions, is at first unfamiliar to a British viewer, but it's fascinating. I can't recommend this enough...
