In Nome, Alaska, a group of fortune seeking gold dredgers go out on the Bering Sea to dig up/dive for gold under the water using a variety of dredges and machinery. Every day they battle the weather with constant storms chasing them off the water. Every day they fight with dredge owners, crew members and family as the pressure to land the motherlode causes tempers to fray and risks to be take. Machinery breaks down, dredge owners flirt with bankrupcy and personal problems threaten the whole operation.
This series just has everything in it-bar brawls, stabbings, boat accidents, police intervention, guys losing their temper with each other, dredging accidents and cock ups, guys being sacked and reinstated, and a big pile of gold on offer for those who can find it! There are drama and laughs in every episode as things go from dangerous to bizarre in ten seconds. This is an intense, gripping series that had me hooked from episode one. The dredgers themselves are fascinating to me due to the huge financial and personal risks that they take in order to try and get rich. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I had their debts! Watching this show tells me that you really need to know what you're doing and have enough money to fund it. Amateurs who think this is easy money really need to watch this series before they think about trying it! Mind you even just watching on TV, the gold is so beautiful when it is cleaned up so I can see exactly why people are obsessed with finding it.
The dredgers really do make this show. Emily is trying to prove herself to a mostly male environment, Shaun is trying to prove himself to his father, Scott is trying not to kill Steve, Steve is trying to find someone who won't fire him, Vern is ready to kill Scott AND Steve, Zeke is losing patience with Emily...the human drama added to the gripping hunt for gold makes this a sure fire winner for me. Loved it!

I enjoyed this series. The operation is clearly explained and at times it makes you think you are in the wrong job, but reality is not far away and diving in freezing water to vacuum up gold is not my idea of a good career move. All that aside, it was entertaining to watch
