East is East is set in GB and obviously meant to be set in the 1970ies. Though the cover says it was a 'often hilarious and sometimes painful' story, my impression was painful only and not funny at all as it also contains some brutality. It isn't a bad movie but not always easy to watch.
West is West is set in Pakistan and definitly more enjoyable. The story here is far more interesting and the developement of the characters more obvious.
